As someone who was born into the Catholic Church and who as a child was required to partake in the various rituals and practices (Holy Communion, and Confirmation etc) it never ceases to amaze me how a whole body of people, an entire church spanning several continents could get it so wrong.. in fact it makes me deeply suspicious.. Mary (the mother of Jesus)is hardly mentioned in the Bible, in fact in a number of verses she is referred to as the mother of Jesus's brothers, and 'the other Mary'.... and yet she is worshippes as a God and has been worshipped as a God for centuries.... did nobody from the church or from its congregation ever think to question... Mary is important, in the way that the various Prophets were.. she is an annointed one, annointed for a very special and devine purpose, but as we do not pray to the prophets, neither should we pray to Mary...

Catholics... I urge you to actually READ the bible sometime..

Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Catholics, in the sense that they are in the main, good people with a sincere intention to do what is right, its just that 'what is right' has been wrongly fed to them by a Church, which is at its core, misguided, with the intention to misguide...

Any comments?

The catholic church was originally pagan under the romans and switched solely because of the rise of christianity, and needed to in order to maintain control of the masses.

skimpydoo: Look up the Black Mary's. They existed in some very old churches in France and the Catholic Church got them banned because Mary was made to be just as important if not more important to christians than Jesus was.
I forgot to add that Blacks statues of Mary would be found in certain churches.

What makes you think you have gotten it right ??

Aries01: in fact it makes me deeply suspicious.. Mary (the mother of Jesus)is hardly mentioned in the Bible,..

This is not surprising as one of the early popes around 800 ad had the majority of references to women removed an interesting fact is that in the very beginning there where female priests (I may b wrong about the date for some reason 200ad is popping into my mind)

Aries01: and yet she is worshippes as a God and has been worshipped as a God for centuries....,..

Strictly speaking she is a Saint Mary

Aries01: Catholics... I urge you to actually READ the bible sometime..,..

How far threw it have you gotten at this stage Aries ?? (and which version are you using ??)

Its been asked, but what makes you think that after millions of catholics and plenty of theologians and church leaders not getting it right, that finally you have in your very short sojourn into this constructed book, somehow figured it all out, despite your (anyone's)inability to prove the existence of any of its main characters?

I'm afraid you're shadow boxing Orla. Fighting over nothing. Like all religions have done to justify their interpretation and form splinter groups and more religions. Punching at things you can never hit. dunno

I'm curious what else is King James known for... I mean the ability to "rewrite"a religious historical account "" known as the bible is a great feat.

All the Chirstians of today still blindly follow that retelling of events.

you have to wonder what political dogma is intentionally "entwined "in this version called the "King James Bible."

Don't know that Mary is worshipped a a God, Aries, as you suggest. Certaijly thats not what I was reared to as a Catholic. The Council of Ephesus in 403 laid down the rule: "Let Mary be held in honour. Let the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost be adored, but let no one adore Mary".

Am I missing some piece catholic history here ?

Mars, the Roman God of war, also known as Aries to the Greeks. Their names are perfectly interchangeable. From the time of Homer, the god Mars was one of the Olympian deities, the son of Zeus and Hera, but disliked by the other Roman god figures. Worship to the god Mars occurred largely in north Greece. He was associated from early times with Aphrodite, occasionally portrayed as his legitimate wife and at other times his lover. He would be accompanied in battle by his sister Eris (strife) and by two of the children that he had with Aphrodite, Phobos and Deimos (Panic and Rout) during ancient Roman war fighting.

Im just curious as to why some one who profess a strong faith in Christianity would pick such a username as Aries ??
