I wash my solid whites seperate from the light colored and so on.
I generally use warm water to wash all clothes in warm water.
I'd also read labels to make sure that certain colors can be washed together especially when it comes to drying them too.
I don't use bleach everytime I wash whites because to much bleaching makes the cloth wear sooner.

I wash my whites in warm or hot water with bleach
I wash towels and wash clothes together in hot water with bleach if alot of them are colored towels then I'll wash them with a little bleach

That's pretty close to how I do laundry also..although, I wash very dark and black colored fabrics together in cold water, and reds and related colors together in cold water also... solid whites are in hot water with bleach, while light colors are washed in warm with color safe bleach...

Oops...forgot about bed linens...I NEVER wash my egyptian cotton sheet sets with anything else...
