langleygirl: Hhm ~ I'm thinking its more about making sure that WE are the right ones. What are we doing to develop ourselves to ensure that we are good marriage material? Seems that so often we blame others for failures and forget that we are responsible as well.

Agree.

Have met people that has successful marriages, and some been living together 25 yrs or more. It's not the license that makes it work, it's the 2 people involved.

I have not thought about getting married again. I'd have to start dating... and well, if someone ever finds me good enough to date...what will happen...will happen.

ok, well I got out of a relationship about 3 months ago...but truthfully, it must have been WAYYYYY before that (in denial)

this is the way I see it

I LOVE the idea of marriage....and the idea I have are the ones my MOM gave me (what can I say? I am traditional)

BUT I DO NOT believe in living together......In the beginning, everything is hunky dory, fun, carefree and all the other "jazz' that comes with falling in love...then the "I LOVE YOU" kicks in...so, we say "hey, you live there, I live here, why don't we live together, somewhere in the middle"........and a union is formed

BUT, many aspects of living together are not discussed until it becomes an issue thru an arguement or just indifferences encountered......

so, yeah, you live where you live, I live where I live and throughout the week, we get together.....

I guess with my age, I kinda LIKE the idea of having my bed all to myself! NOT every night .but MOST nights..

You live and learn...I guess I learned before I lived...with him! rolling on the floor laughing

Everyone is different and have different opinions on this matter, but for me personaly, I don't believe in living together. I've seen my friends and a family member who lived together and their relationships ended badly. I'd rather get to know a person and if he's the right person eventualy get married. I want to know that someone wants to grow old with me instead of being my roomate. I guess you can say I'm old fashioned.

hollandgirl made a good point about pensions for seniors, now I will also say that if I really loved someone and we both liked the idea of being married I would do so.I left all garbage at the curb before I came into this site.Im not totally comfortable with living togther without marriage, that of course is me.

eyesthatknowwhy: Who knows what the right answer is, For seniors? Yes, and taking into account Christian beliefs, again who knows. Really Holland, don't you think it is all just a crap shoot in a way...Maybe neither is the "right" choice. Maybe each keep their own place, have their own space, get together for your dates and sleep overs. I might be on to something there - That might add to the longevity of the relationship; thus, the success and happiness Think about it....
I agree with you strongly on this one

Was married twice. The first had a problem with self-esteem.
Needed his ego boosted thought he could do so by cheating.
I will share my chocolate bar, not my husband.
I had met him at 14 and never was with anyone else. Also I did not
see a lot of things because we grow up together. Came to Canada at age
20.
Believed in my marrige vows and thought we would grow old and grey together. This all went down the drain when he cheated on me.
I did feel darn good when years later he told me; that he now knew what he had lost.
20 years alone then in '84 married the man I was married to for 21 years and 20 days.
He died this coming January 11th 3 years ago.
He was only 61 when I was 68 it was a great marriage.
I want what I had back, it is as simple as all that. cheering
