Do you care about being popular?

How important is it to you?

Do you tone down your comments rather than speak your mind?

Do you pander to social norms just to maintain being liked by the many?

Do you make threads just to see your name on the first page?

Would you risk your popularity to be up front with a friend or pal here?

conversing

Are you just a talking talker or a talk and walker?

BnaturAl: Do you care about being popular?

How important is it to you? It tickles my ego but it's never the goal.

Do you tone down your comments rather than speak your mind?

Yes, absolutely. And I have learned tones about that, as people don't know you, don't get the meaning of your words and missinterpretations can be hurtfull. I don't change the content, but I'll find a better shape and moment to express it.

Do you pander to social norms just to maintain being liked by the many?

Yes and no, it really depends, but in general we all function under certain social norms, it's up to us to set the limit.

Do you make threads just to see your name on the first page? Hahahaha...nope

Would you risk your popularity to be up front with a friend or pal here?

Yeap!

If you had asked those questions a few years ago my answers would have been, yes it is important to me to be popular.

I was one of the many ppl who felt that my value was tied up with how much ppl liked me and was terrified of upsetting ppl or that they might not like me. I twisted myself into knots trying to please everyone, had been doing this since I was a child.

Took reaching rock bottom to start to look at how I viewed myself and my role in my own life.

Now I feel I am a nice person and while I will help a person if I can I am not afraid to say no.

Awesome Thread.....cheers I'm Stooie1971... an I'm an Alcoholic.... Oops wrong Meeting....

I speak my mind and I try to keep my threads as light hearted as possible.. but I will respond to the 'lets see how many threads I can post in 60 Seconds Brigade'

I believe that if you voice your opinion in a thoughtful, responsible and educated way.... It shouldn't affect your popularity.

If someone responds negatively to any post or thread.... it's simple... they have not understood it.

thanks stoo! wave

So it seems its important to you to maintian some social decorum or 'norm' for right to popularity?

I think sometimes voicing an opinion especially if it calls another out, can affect the way people treat you in the future.

Ok here goes..... alot of points there Al (my sweetheart smitten)

Do I care about being popular.. no!.. never have not even as a child, cause I learned at an early age that it meant compromising urself.. kids can be nasty!!

No.. not important at all.. though my friendships are... the generous handful of friends that I have gathered over the years are all very important to me.. though to be very honest, I could be alot better.. reminds me must send off some emails...

I will try and be tactful in the sense of not sticking a verbal dagger in someones heart (which not good either imo). but I will be honest.... very hard thing to do sometimes.. but people generally appreciate it IME

Social norms.. God no!!! laugh.... I have always been quirky and a little different (all my family are) and I like it..

Threads.. no.. though it does make it easier to find ur posts (go into my threads etc) which is handy

I have never been popular.. .so not much of a loss really.. and tbh there are only one or two on here that I am very fond of.... vast majority of people who regularly post are lovely, just never really got to know them any better than day one.

I wish I was more of a 'walker' tbh

wave hug

Read my profile...it'll probably tell you my views on being popular.

What' I've found is that people who like me, really like me....and the one's that don't probably come closer to hating me. .....it is what it is..... The older I get, the less I care. That's not being negative, just a better sense of "self".

Well I've seen you step outside your box a bit lately dear laugh or at least the box you used to be in in the not to distant past. thumbs up

The odd thing about standing up for a belief or taking a side, is that popularity may change sides as well. People who used to think well of you stop and new ones take hold because of the stance we take sometimes.

Walking the talk is something we could all do better me thinks. wine

I don't want to be poplular. Because being popular and fitting in would require me to step too far out of my comfort zone. I'm just not willing to do all the skinning, grinning, butt kissing, lying, coniving, back stabbing, and putting on a phony act in order to be popular.

I think it is 'generally' a bigger thing for women, since they have a need to befriend others, male and female. It does seem like more of a contest sometimes, about how many friends one has rather than the quality of those few that matter.

Nice that you found the sacrifice to be delusional and have changed for the better V ! cheers
