roseofsharon: I have in mind perhaps New York, San Francisco and Florida.....

I believe the restaurants are excellent and very reasonably priced...?

Can anyone give me some insight into things like (cost-wise, reasonable?) internal flights, public transport, taxi fares, accommodation.... things like that?

Grazie.... in advance, peeps!

New York and San Francisco are VERY expensive. A decent hotel room could cost you $300/night.

Off season in Florida is very reasonable. You could go to Miami Beach in May and get a hotel room for under $150/night. Other Florida cities are even less expensive. Ft Lauderdale is very nice...about 30 miles north of Miami. The west coast of Florida have some nice beaches also. Naples is beautiful, but might be a little more expensive than Miami Beach. Clearwater Beach is very nice...Sand Key, right near Clearwater is beautiful.

Then there is the Panhandle...Pensacola is nice and quiet, and New Orleans is about a 3 hour drive from there.

I am not from Florida, so others here can give you a better idea.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia (A unique place to visit, a great place to vacation, a wonderful place to live)

A fantastic recreational resource for lovers of animals, birds, fish, nature, water sports, and the outdoors. Recreational activities in the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore area include fishing, hunting, sun bathing, swimming, sailing, bird watching, hiking, biking, touring, sea kayaking, wind surfing, camping, photography, crabbing, water-skiing, and much more.

Pristine barrier beach islands on the seaside of Virginia's Eastern Shore. Regions recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, truly one of the last large wetland habitats in the world.

tipaly81: If you're looking for Native American, I would visit New Mexico area. There are four states that touch exactly one anothers corners, it's called the four corners. Any way, there are a lot of places to visit and markets to experience. Also, go to Mesa Verde, that's a national park where you can visit cliff dwellings and such. It cost about $20 + to get in, but it's worth it. I've been twice.

Good luck.

What she said. 100% The Grand Canyon is amazing. If I could only visit one place it would be that. Heaven, if you are interested in Native American culture and one of the great wonders of the world.

roseofsharon: I am toying with the idea of perhaps visitng the States some time next year......

Can anyone recommend places over the Pond to visit? Is your neck of the woods worth a peek? I am keen to know the places to visit, things to see and do, and the weather at certain times of the year.....

I would be most eager to experience some of what the Native American culture has to offer. All ideas would be welcomed but I do need to avoid mosquitos where possible.

This is providing the riff-raff is allowed in, of course....!!

Thanks in advance, peeps.....

Beautiful Rosebud, I have been to all but 8 states, ay least once and I have hitch-hiked from coast to coast, twice and back. pick any one I have benn to and ,or, lived and I will be more than willing to recommend something to your taste. If you ever come to Michigan, I would be honored to give you a tour of the State, depending on the season you come, there is a world of beauty and thing to do and see. 2 weeks here would not begin to cover what I could show you here:
1) Irish Hills
2) Hidden lakes Gardens
3) Ann Arbor Art Fair
4) University of Michigan Football Stadium- largest open air stadium in the USA-over 111,000 seats + more being built.
5) Downtown Detroit-restaurants,theaters,Tiger Stadium,casinoes,Belle Isle, Cranbrook Institute
6) Frankenmuth-worlg famous for chicken dinner's, Bronner's-Worlds Largest Christ mas Store.....

Just a small sampling and I have'nt even got to mid-state, lower peninsula yet!

The Upper Peninsula has:

!) Mackinacw Bridge and Island-famoust for fudge, Grand Hotel..where Somewhere In Time was Filmed Jane Seymour &Christopher Reeve.
2) Sault St. Marie Canal-unites all the Great Lakes, it has a muesum ship freighter, which has artifacts from the Edmond Fitzgerald/

I have'nt scratched the surface of Michigan alone.

Don't be afraid to ask me, Rosebud!
