I live in a small town and saw two black boys playing basketball with two Latina girls.
I stopped to watch and listen. They were talking about basketball, the bus stopped and one kid looked at the other and said, "you better get home." Moms came out looking for kids. The boys ran home.
My kid grew up in mixed neighborhoods and I found myself asking permission for her friends to come to my house. I asked parents if they minded my daughter coming to their house. We spoke Spanglish in my house, I learned how to make tortillas, when I was a kid. I don't speak Spanish well, but I've grown up with it and my daughter is marrying a mixed boy. I adore his family.
I grew up in Black and Latino neighborhoods. I could toss my books and go play with my friends. In small town OK, the kids play on the side, before they run home.
Thats great, I love different cultures. I grew up in Miami, I'm half Cuban and Italian and really enjoyed being exposed to different people when I was growing up.
