Sorry for bringing up another "worst of" thread, but am moping about my impending 7000 euro dental bill..don't know why i am thinking about that now. My worst fears in life, 'wasps, heights and the dentist'

Had a root canal and they shot too much novocaine in me and into my optical canal and paralyzed by eyesight for about 5 hours. Could only see straight (but skewed), no peripheral vision. Freaked me out and the dentist when I started screaming in the chair...They had to sedate me and put me in a dark room away from the other patients who heard me screaming...not good for businessscold

You have a brother in pain here blues

Until I was 23-24 something I had no problems with the dentist, most small things done without any anaesthesias. Then came a big problem, a tooth needed to come out. It was infected but they had no mercy. I ended sliding out of the chair to the floor by the pain. Then she realised maybe they needed to wait a day or two and drench it in some killer stuff first.

After that, I freeze dead when I hear or smell or even think of anything having to do with a dentist.

A bad circle, for 8 years I mistreated my teeth because of this, the fix cost a lot but it also regained a little of my confidence.

It sure helps to change dentist, but I still do not like it. At all.

well my worst experience was about to start when my dentist said "oh oh". Not as worse as other experienced but that "oh ho" needed some deep and wide drilling and it is never good to hear your doctor say "oh oh", isn't it?

Please don't talk about it... If I've ever been afraid of something, then it is the dentist. Had some bad experiences when I was a child and I'm still scared to death every time I have to go there... Next time is tomorrow crying

--- For the last 35 yrs my trips to the dentist have been and exercise in looking at pain- I have not used anesthetic .fillings/root canal replacement of toxic amalgam etc
I have noticed through discussion and total understanding of the procedure to be undertaken And limited communication, during ie eyes ,groans the dentist takes more care . Also the small amount of pain experienced is short lived much more so than the uncomfortable possibly toxic injections and their aftermath

The ridiculous thing is I recently needed an extraction for this yes my bravery waned and I accepted anesthetic--- yep ! you guessed it --- wrong tooth laugh dunno crying

I`ve come to the conclusion you gotta "shop around" for a good dentist? Maybe most of them are only in it for the Business and they not realy good at their job?

I had one guy who told me I needed a wisdom tooth out (YES! I lost a wisdom tooth at age 55!) and because it was a complicated procedure I needed General Anaesthetic in a Clinic. Because I refuse to have GA I enquired into being awake, but stilll he insisted a Surgeon had to do the procedure - and the cost was Woppingly Huge Megabucks!

So I toddled off down the road to another dentist, who took a look, shrugged his shoulders, showed me the "problem" on his scanning screen - and simply pulled the tooth out! Cost was a normal extraction.
He was fascinated by the previous dentists diagnosis and asked me to whisper the name in his ear.

I don't think the dentist is ever a pleasant thing. They put that device in your mouth to keep it open for a looooong time, the drilling, scraping, ugh. And I have "good teath" they always tell me. I can't imagine if they were bad. jaw drop
