Well I don´t think I would go as far as to abolish it completely, we still need the military, dealings with foreign nations, and minimal over sight of the states, but the role should definitely be reduced drastically.

Why do you feel that states need oversite? That is like the inmates overseeing the asylum. People would take greater interest in their government if they feel they have more control.... not the moron cotrol we have now. The States were once more powerful than the federal goverment at one time and the country ran more as a collective to get things done. We all needed to work together. Now, look what we have...

I dont think that's very accurate. Bush is only concerned with his fat cat buddies. Obama has said he'll undo Bush tax cuts on people making more than $200k or so. One of the wealthiest billionaires in the country, Warren Buffet, said it's crazy that he pays taxes at a lower rate than his secretary.
Reps always cut taxes so when Dems get back into power they have no choice but to act like the bad-guy parent and try to balance the budget. Which allows Reps to accuse them of always raising taxes. You can't get much more cynical than that.
