Relationships start by being friends. So .... if the relationship ends ... why does the friendship have to end?

Because it's not always the decision of both and sometimes even when both agree it's best to separate one or both may not be totally fine with it / may still be feeling a little "attached"...... doesn't always help to remain friends..... sometimes distance is needed to help people move on...... 
Just contributing tonight really. I'm not actually in a position to know what I'm talking about.
From my point of view, if you break up or go your separate ways, doesn't mean you have to do it by being bitter and distant. Sometimes the chemistry might be gone, but you still share the friendship. There is nothing wrong with that, unless there are some unresolved feelings from each party involved.

My ex husband and I maintain a friendship, we are close when we have contact, but we can go for weeks without contact now the children are older.
My ex partner, who is still my business partner, sometimes we are friends, now we are not, as he refuses to speak to me, so when it comes to paying our VAT he will call, shout, that life is crap and that it is all my fault.

I have some incense left since last in Sri Lanka, they are super. I like to hide away candles so I never see the flame, just the shimmering of the light on the walls. Very soothing.
