I joined CS almost a year ago and started out right here in the EU Forums. It was a bit slower paced and not so many people to keep track of as in the International Forum. I remember the wry wit of rusty and lago, still a good friend... the wise words of Smokey... it was a warm comfortable environment to learn my way around a forum it being my first time and all.

I found myself back here this evening after become quite disgusted with the nonsense going on in the IF, only to find that it wasn´t the same warm safe environment it once was. Instead I found snide comments and an elitist attitude.

How sad.

You see JB, I see it differently, I find it like a comfy pair of slippers with calmness, no bickering,

Threads like this attract attention, the EU forums have the elegance that the IF does not carry.

Soothiing words are still here from Smoky, Flower, Mike, with some odd craics from Phoenix and the wonderful brilliance of Lagoona, Immanuelle and our treasured Gongman who balms our armour with his gongs.

I am sorry you feel like that, there is a time when people have a difference of opinions, but there it is, it happens and here it is buried with calmness and dignity, tempered with kindness and a hug.

I think if you read through the late evening threads you will see the safe warm atmosphere that you experienced, is still very much in place.

Ever so much the day threads too.

So it´s allright to go into the IF and stir up a ruckus and then retire gracefully to the elegance and comfy slippers of the EUF?

No matter how elegant, well reasoned and restrained your debating skills you can´t escape the fact that what you essentially did was continue posting in a manner that was hurtful and destructive to several people. The entire argument, debate, whatever you choose to call it was actually between ship and stooie, and had it been left between them would have been over in a page or two.

You are a smart and intelligent woman with excellent written and verbal skills... maybe it´s not necessary to prove it quite so often.

You mean I'm not a friend? ~sniff~

jbibiza........ the ambiance of the forums can change day by day; at one time, when several CS members were banned from posting at the same time, it did appear (to me at least) to be a little dull at times!

Smoky is still alive and kicking and occasionally being very witty - she took a break for a while while her super-duper new laptop had teething problems..... some members come and go, but you can't really judge the EU forums if you only come back for one day, can you?

Sometimes the IF is sparkling with wit and repartee and sometimes it seems really boring - if I 'hit' IF on a boring day I could say the same about the IF as you've said about the EU forum.......... maybe you need to make a few witty posts to get the ball rolling!

Snide comments and an elitist attitude?

Never! Impossible! We Europeans are totally incapable of such terrible behaviour!

Aha, now we are getting to it.

So, I was the cause of the ruck?

And actually JB, I do think it is ok, because as I seem to be the target for yesterday's performance, not to mention the whole blame, when a debate is being carried out, when verbal attacks are being bandied around and people are disresepectful, insolent, are profane, I think as I explained bowing out and removing oneself from the argument is the graceful thing to do.

As for stirring up, oh yes, I raised some hackles, singlehandely, supporting my argument. Not quite sure who is hurt, but I saw one man who was terribly hurt. It is a public forum, the discussion was up for all to contribute. Also, the issue was not between Ship and Stooie, because if you read the thread properly I had asked Stooie about his comments, before Ship came along.

I think also that again, because I have mentioned this, as this is third time, I have been blamed for this, but I have broad shoulders, I know you are sticking up for friends, but there was an offer of an olive branch, shame that people have overlooked that and manners are severly lacking here, not to mention that I am told how I think.

Luckily for me as a person, I can overlook attacks and rudeness, plus clearly concerted efforts, poor efforts at attempts to turn people against me. If I was a weaker person, I would be considering that as bullying. Another term, that is sorely misunderstood around here.

I do not have to prove my intelligence, at all, just a shame that people have no idea when they are proving their ignorance.

I bid you good day.

Seeing the end to an arguement is a pleasant desire, but at what cost? Those two left alone would have slandered much of the social grace which exeplifies humans. Not a promising prospect in the ne'er so well developed North American Heisphere, as we have not the social climate nor depth of historical resonance that you charmers do in Europe.
Stuart was wrong in his accusations, not his opinion. Ship was wrong to assume beyond the simple sentences that were constructed. So left alone two wrongs cannot make a right and they would have decidedly harboured a grudge for far too long possibly to the detrimet of any other thread in which they posted. Unhealed wounds are the worst to bear especially if they exist deep below the skin, and like most dieases are highly contagious.
I read the entirety of that thread against my better judgement and saw that someone was trying to present a mirror to the men before a ring had to be set up to let them primally resound their hollow animal grunts. The damages perceived and the damages caused are often not the same thing. I do not know how it is in the Eu forums, but there are only a small percentage of profiles that post in the threads, and a far greater number that read them.
Left to their own devices without some sort of direction or limitations imposed and the less vocal members could fell irreversible damages from the backlash of very harsh words indeed. Ostracism, for any reason is an undesired human trait. The North American continent is laced with political machinations that will not allow for this to settle as it promotes the divisiveness and dissention which keep young nations from seeing what is right.
I believe that had other stood up with Sommer then cooler heads may have prevailed sooner, but at times the aloof coolness of our Old World loses some of its appeal, when they decide to let the children play unattended.
We do not have the colourful histories that you do to remind us of folly and its works. Litierature and fine reason come from your world and we have little but hope for such in our own. We also do not have the closeness both physically and culturally of the Old World to blend our differences, so to have a voice of reason or decency to stand up and change the direction of attention or to sate the vileness that comes of anger was a most proper thing to do. I support Sommer in her efforts to alleviate a tension that has no merit. If we do not stand against tyranny we support it.

Darling Rusty, of course you´re a friend... I like that the EU forums are a bit slower paced, and I remember some brilliant, witty chats here... so the opening comments I made about EU were meant to be complimentary. What I was disappointed to see was an attitude of "US" and "them" and an inference that the people on IF were somehow lacking in intelligence.

I´m here a lot more often then you might think... I do check in fairly regularly, just feel that I would be an interloper by posting most times.

I don´t see anything humble in your opinion... quite the opposite in fact and very representative of the "elitist" attitude I referred to earlier... to refer to yourselves as the "adults" monitoring the "children" is incredibly presumptuous.

What Stooie said was nothing that many men, especially from the older generation, think and feel. They do not understand homosexuality and it makes them very uncomfortable. His wording was ill phrased and he attempted on several occasion to apologize and rephrase what he had said. In the end, all the man was saying was that he found it very inappropriate for someone to graphically discuss the joys of receiving an*l s*x and it made him sick... no he didn´t express himself well... but not all have the gift of conveying their meaning clearly with the written word and for people to keep harping on and on and on was ridiculous.

Ship reacted strongly to comments because it´s a topic that effects him on a very personal level... they are both grown men who have been on this site a good deal longer then any of us and I´m sure could have sorted it themselves if the flames hadn´t constantly been fanned.
