One of them would have to be my "second mom"... our housekeeper when I was growing up, starting when I was about 16 months old.
She is now 81, and incredibly loving and positive most of the time, which is amazing given the life she's had.
She grew up in poverty in rural New Mexico, losing her mother at a very young age, raised by her older sisters.
She married a man who turned out to be physically, emotionally and verbally abusive, and went and found herself work at age 34 as a housekeeper 5 days a week for my family, when she had 4 kids between the ages of 1-12. Her second child, a son, killed his young wife, her mother, and himself at age 19 when he read in the paper that his wife had filed for divorce (at the instigation and nagging of her mother), leaving behind a baby girl.
Her husband died from drowning on a July 4 picnic when she was 44, leaving her with 7 children to raise on her own.
She fell in love again when she was 45?, and spent 18 years being treated like a queen by a wonderful man who died of cancer.
She lives with chronic pain and just barely enough money, but I talk to her several times a week, and she is always very loving and supportive of me, no matter what.
My best friend Scott Paterson, passed away at 44 of an anuerism,he is the reason that I was even remotely interested in the computer...tried to get me into the computer stuff years ago and never cared for knowing...now that he is dead,I have thoroughly enjoyed all things associated with the computer...even still have his Yahoo messenger contact still online just in case he decides to IM me from heaven.
The reason why is because he was such an example of a true friend, through thick and thin, good or bad, health or sickness...we were so different and I guess that's why I looked up to him.
I don't have a single hero anymore. I tend to have a lot of people I deeply respect, most are scientists and mathematicians.
I'd have to say that Sir Isaac Newton was definitely my childhood hero without a doubt, and later Albert Einstein. I know that these two figures are the two most famous scientists of all time, but this is true for good reason. They were both extremely clever and curious men. They are both my heroes.
But today I would have a very long list of heroes to add to those from ancient times to the present including a lot of women. All of them are scientists or mathematicians or both.
Paws you are sooooooooooo sweet .... you have a way of bringing out the best in me because I see it reflected in you. Even when I'm down you are there to encourage me... thank you for being a good listener when I need it and caring for me. Sending you big HUGS
I have three...... Albert Einstein, because without him, we'd have no clue about the universe we live in.... Ben Hogan, because like me, he overcame a lot of adversity, to pursue a dream he'd always had.... Hunter S. Thompson, because even for a drug and alcohol addled hippie, he always maintained his wit, and sense of prose.....
i only have one hero.......and thats lumy baby......love ya lumy.....
this goes out to you....lumy baby....
Where have all good men gone And where are all the gods? Where’s the street-wise Hercules To fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need
I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night He’s gotta be strong And he’s gotta be fast And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light He’s gotta be sure And it’s gotta be soon And he’s gotta be larger than life
Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There’s someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night He’s gotta be strong And he’s gotta be fast And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light He’s gotta be sure And it’s gotta be soon And he’s gotta be larger than life
Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above Out where the lightning splits the sea I would swear that there’s someone somewhere Watching me Through the wind and the chill and the rain And the storm and the flood I can feel his approach Like a fire in my blood
