Tipaly brings another important point into the discussion. Religion. Religious groups may forbid contraception. Both the Catholics in the West and Orthadox Christian Churches in the East have a policy that a conception is "God's Will" ... I am not sure how they explain the possible fact that "God allowed contraceptive devices to be invented" ... well there is free will ... in which case God must be willing enough pregnancies to drown the planet but allowing everyone the free will to avoid that but go to Hell if you do. Sounds like a very mischievious God to me.

I am not sure where the Jews stand on contraception. I have known (in the biblical sense) 4 women of the Jewish faiths but asking about contraception seemed contrary to my plans at the time. Soeone out there will have to enlighten me.

The Islamist and Old Christian faiths frown apon contraception. Actually they forbid it on pain of going to the firey place. The plan there in a feudal world was to out populate the other faiths ... or perhaps they are right, it is God's will and I and many others are DOOMED. Anyway no Pope, High Mulla or whatever wants to be the one to change the policy. In fact the Islamists see this as a gentler and more uncover way to spread Islam.

We are lucky that the majority of the followers of the various religions don't think the rule was meant for them personally.

I don't find it untoward to fund these policies if that's what the people there want. The only problem is that many of these people resent it bitterly.

I don't think that the "people" don't resent it. The feudal religious leadership of the people resent it. Contraception, or easily available contraception robs these robber barons of future cannon fodder. And remember George Bush was a born again Christian apposed to contraception.
