Any suggestions for anything that will help to
calm a young friend of mine who is having
her first driving test tomorrow and
has been getting worked up about it all week?

What I tell my kids when they get all nervous about a test is to pretend it's not a test...to just study and do their best...and think of it as just another school day...so you may want to tell her to try to forget the test part and pretend it's just a driving lesson...and just to make sure she does everything she has been taught!!!!!!!!

Tell her to think about her first day of school - remember how nervous and trepidatious she was? And all for nothing! Now it's no big deal.

The driving test will be the same - Soon she'll be zipping all over with nary a thought to the nerves she was experiencing, so why worry now?

Tell her to picture herself as though she's been driving for years and it's old hat, then drive that way during the test. She'll do fine!

thumbs up

Thanks for those, will try.

I have tried the old think of the examiner in their underwear
to try and lighten her mood but to no avail.

An antihistimine the night before works. It still leaves the stomach a bit too zoned out next morning to be nervous.

I've suggested one glass of wine,
but she refuses to take anything at all
saying she wants nothing to upset her
or make her feel off in the morning
It's a losing battle

thumbs up

Good advice, when my girls were going for their tests I told them to think of it as a "pre test" test (not the real thing) not to even think of passing or failing just a learning lesson for the real thing whenever....

they both passed first time......

best of luck to your friend and remind her that win, lose or draw it will not be the death of her ie she WILL live through it......wave

Not so sure this is a great suggestion, considering how some people drive who've been driving for years!! tongue Don't want the license revoked before she even gets it. laugh

That would never work for me if it happened to be a female tester I would run into the first telephone pole I came to.
At the minimum she'd fail me for not keeping my eye on the road. This would be me--->uh oh or--->wow

Ask her, how would you like to be taking a test in a tracter trailer? I think the Kansan can relate to that.
