What is the Difference between Harry Potter books and The Chronicles of Narnia.... from a Christian point of view?
I was shocked the first time I heard churches banning the Harry Potter books.... while they have always supported The Chronicles of Narnia. Both series of books deal with magic and the ongoing battles of good vs evil.

Anyone care to shed some light on this?
Some church people should get a life!! Of course most of them do it to get personal publicity....which is not very Christian in my view!

The Chronicles of Narnia, were written by C.S. Lewis- A Christian writer
Harry Potter, written By J.K. Rowling- A Agnostic
The Golden Compass, was written by Philip Pullman- A Athiest
Hugz_n_Kissez: So does that mean they can deal with the same things as long as they're a Christian author then????
Cs Lewis used the Bible as a template for his work, it is an allegorical translation of the message within the Bible therefore is accepted by the religious hordes.
A much better book by him is the Screwtape Letters...
Fallingman: Yes. For Republicans a presidential action is good if it is done by a Republican President and bad if it is done by a Democrat. Life is simple really
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Makes sense to me...Yep let's ban all books so nobody can read them for a select few...I always thought it was just as easy to not pick up the book and read it....

I think a lot of people try to make it a religious issue. I don't. What I see is three different opinions and or perspectives on the same subject matter.
Hugz_n_Kissez: Ok...so if it's bible based then it's ok too...
Only to the religious right.
I take no offense to any book ever written (excepting perahaps Harlequin Romance Novels- they are all the exact same book as the first one, different names and places same sob story).

That's what I'm talking about the church...well as far as I am concerned...if you don't like the friggin book ten don't read it...geeze that's hard....
Claayer: 80% of the movies have good guys bad guys too.. good and evil?
What about all the da muuvveees then?
Honestly.. what a load of rubbish.
Hollyweird is run by the Jews didn't ya know and they only got as far in the Bible as the Old Testament... they never bothered to read the part where it says... do not readeth the works, watcheth the films, or listeneth to the words or stories of those not deeply in the shadow of an approved church (see end of book for list of applicable tabernacles)...

Basically the chronicles are ok because they are based on the parts of the bible , and Harry potter is not because it is said that it encourages witchcraft ,
What it boils down to is , people magic is bad in case people copy it , but anything like unicorns doing magic is ok ,
