somechick: I don't think there is anything wrong with complimenting a stranger as long as it's meant in a respectful manner.
I tell men on and off the site quite often that I think they're handsome and I think paying that type of compliment brightens up someones day.
When someone pays me a compliment I know it makes my day.

It´s not only women who can take a compliment the wrong way... when I see something about a guy that I like... I let him know.I was at a club with some friends and noticed this one guy with his buddies... he had the most fantastic smile and laugh... so I approached him and told him that he had the best smile in the club and I loved the way his eyes lit up when he smiled. Then I left and went back to my friends to continue the party... next thing I know he´s standing next to me... hovering.
I had to tell him that it was a compliment... not a pickup line and sent him on his way.
