As some of you already know, my daughter's expecting at the end of October. Last night, she called me & said the baby's breech & she'll need to schedule a c-section. That's the bad news.
The good news is that she asked if I would mind if she schedules the surgery for my birthday! She said she'll be far enough along at that point to have it done.
Some people say give the baby her own birthday. Others think it's a really nice, special thing for my daughter to do.

first off, congratulations on becoming being a grandmommy.
but i think it is your daughters decision. it is truly sweet what she is willing to do. and i know my niece was born on my birthday and it just made it more fun for all of us. i think that a grandmother and grandchild sharing a birthday would create a special bond.

My daughter was born on her paternal grandmother's b/day by coincidence. She was also born by planned C-Section but the date had to be brought forward for medical reasons so she ended up sharing her Nan's b/day!!!!!!
C-sections are not always bad news. Both my kids were born that way. It's one of those things. The goos news about c-sections once mums have recovered from the surgery is that "things down there" are exactely as they were before the birth.
I agree with Kidda on the date thing ... Do it on the date that's best for baby and Mum. May it all go well for both of them!!!
This will actually be my third grandchild... but my FIRST granddaughter. So yes, I'm excited! And my sister & sister-in-law both had their children by c-section. I know they're a pretty common procedure. She's just very nervous. And since I never experienced it, I can't help her. But they can. I told her to talk to my sister, who is like her second mom.

Do what's best for the your daughter and her baby. The thought is quite sweet and I see nothing wrong w/ it. In fact, that could be considered the best birthday gift of all. I mean, how would anyone top that?
WhatUwish4: Well, as one who had her kids MUCH later in life, I can only say there are advantages and disadvantages to both ends of the spectrum.
You're sooo right! When she was little & my friends would call me to go out... of course I couldn't, usually.
Now, she's grown & gone & my FRIENDS have small kids! But my best friend is divorced & shares custody. So, when she has the kids, I just hang out at her house (the kids love it cuz I cook all the time!) & when she doesn't have the kids.... well, we ARE called "Thelma & Louise"!!

AAwww I think it's really nice..
Also.. a Caesarean is usually a nice safe option to give birth.. look at all the celebs.. they have it ALL..
the best docs etc too.. and they CHOOSE to have a C section.
So don't worry about that.. nice and safe nice a quick..
A non squished baby face/head.. a nice perfectly round one.. and a non exhausted mum.
Oo hey.. did you know it's called that because Caesar was born that way.. well... so I heard.. but don;t hold me to it..

What difference does it make what "others" think? What do and your daughter want to do?
