Galactic_bodhi: How about higher ordered energy matrices?
How do you explain the apparent non-local nature of certain documented psychic phenomenon, then?
There's always room for doubt in a true atheists mind, but the principles governing mesons and bosons and their relationships with conscious are JUST now beginning to be explored, so I think its best to avoid semantical distinctions with the words "soul" or "atman" at this point in time.

Higher ordered matrices..... yep, can go with that one too
The apparent non local nature of documented psychic phenomena............ no probs...... some think they have the formulae for that kinda stuff - happily, I dont see 'the afterlife' as being owned by a particular set of precepts, just yet at least hahahaha

Psyche or soul is simply our word for the mysterious process through which we experience the movement towards meaning. So far as we know, ours is the only species which feels driven to find meaning.
PILIPALA: Yea just checked i have several on my shoes why does any one need one
The greatest minds in history are still arguing whether there is a soul and what it actually may be Mair - of course, this argument would have been somewhat further on were it not for the suppression of reason which was advocated for quite a lot of years.........
mindfful: i think every human has a soul? whereas animals dont?i dont feel like i have one sometimes cuz i assume if i did i wouldnt be beaten up by others that have one? its a convoluted subject to be sure
Well, us humans tend to doubt all sorts of things ... but one thing I believe is that animals definitely do have a soul. Too many times has it been recorded - in modern times - of people seeing an animal .... that unknown to them .... was already dead. What would explain this phenomenon?
A small child, lost in a barren area of South Africa, and searched for, for 3 days .... was found safe - The child claimed to have been led to water and then to a safe place to sleep and kept warm by the family dog. The dog had died days before the child was lost, but its death was kept from the child. Mysterious huh?
Soul, n. [OE. soule, saule, AS. swel, swl; akin to OFries. s?le, OS. s?ola, D. ziel, G. seele, OHG. s?la, s?ula, Icel. sla, Sw. sjl, Dan. sil, Goth. saiwala; of uncertain origin, perhaps akin to L. saeculum a lifetime, age (cf. Secular.)]
1. The spiritual, rational, and immortal part in man; that part of man which enables him to think, and which renders him a subject of moral government; -- sometimes, in distinction from the higher nature, or spirit, of man, the so-called animal soul, that is, the seat of life, the sensitive affections and phantasy, exclusive of the voluntary and rational powers; -- sometimes, in distinction from the mind, the moral and emotional part of man's nature, the seat of feeling, in distinction from intellect; -- sometimes, the intellect only; the understanding; the seat of knowledge, as distinguished from feeling. In a more general sense, "an animating, separable, surviving entity, the vehicle of individual personal existence." --Tylor.

Atheist
a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.
I am quite sure everyone has a soul...or whatever they choose to call it....you're born how you're born regardless of religious affiliation or belief....I don't think if you grow and choose not to follow one that all of a sudden it gets yanked because you're a non-believer....
The Essence that makes one a Thinking,Breathing,Loving, Living Human Being.
To close the Book on the Matter now, with all the Research into Subatomic Particles going on,with the possibility of discovering other Dimensions, would indeed be foolish. Got to hold some things in abeyance since there is no clear Evidence either way.

Thank you conrad. Skepticism is a dogma like anything else, and thus must be balanced at least with the possibility of faith given at least some evidence.
