rasgumby: take the chicken across first, go back across and get the corn next, take the corn across, pick up the chicken and take it back across , leave it and get the fox, take the fox across next and leave him with the corn the last... go back across and get the chicken.
Good thinking and would probably work and is hopefully the answer even though it is a lot of trips.
But if only 3 trips are allowed then it's back to the drawing board.

Well done "ooby_doody" confirmed this as solution.
Thank you to him for the riddle
Are there any other Maths or interesting riddles from anyone?
I enjoy being confused and baffled.
I still think a raft for the fox was a feasable solution and only one trip!
Here is another for you, You are traped, there are two doors. One leads to freedom the other certain death, you do not know wich one is wich. There is a gaurd in front of each door , one allways tells the truth the other allways lies. You do not know wich gaurd lies or tells the truth. You may ask one question, what would that question be?

Enduro: Recently I was given a scenario by the GM of an engineering company with an example where there is no mathematical solution possible.
What do you think?
Scenario is this:
3 men rent a room costing $40
However the caretaker charges them $20 each so $60.
But then he feels guilty and gives each man back $5 So he gave back $15 and he keeps $5 for himself.
Now the men after getting back $5 each really paid $45 for the room plus the $5 kept by the caretaker is only $50.
BUT the caretaker started with $60.
So where is the missing $10?
Who has it and where did it go????
3 into 40 is 13.3333333 so they each overpaid 6.67 each (approx) to the care taker... getting back 5 meant that there was an extra 1.67 x 3 in the pot 1.67 x 3 = €5.01.. this was the €5 that the caretaker kept

so the caretaker originally had €60 in his hand he hands back 15 (he is now left with €45....... €40 was the original contract price... (plus the €5 on the side.. ) clever guy .... they wouldn't have seen that comin

Dennis, are you a Doctor Who fan by chance? Pyramid of Mars with Tom Baker has this very riddle!!!
solution: you ask one guard what door the other guard would say is freedom, whatever the answer go to other door

Look forget the bloody fox, and his peanuts and the flying chicken, I just want to know this:- the caretaker was charging those idiots 50% more than the asking price for their hovel. Why didn't they just take back the 45 dollars that the crook was holding, subtract the 50% and that would leave 30 dollars, so they only pay 75% of the original asking price of 40 dollars, and the three stoogies are happy,-okay so far?
They give Mr Caretaker the 15 dollar surplus, and he's happy because he's just made 10 dollars more than the five bucks he wanted after his guilt trip:- he donates that to the confused prison guards, and they let me go because they're each 5 dollars in pocket; -sounds fair to me. Now I'm happy because they're all happy, so can any of them just tell me the name of that bloody animal and which country he lives in!

Enduro is relying on the obvious, the number will always be 4, so the country starts with a D, (D=4), therefore most people would say Denmark when asked to name a counry beginning with the number's letter equivalent, then 2nd letter of country being E, he expects you to say elephant.

It was part of a test i was given, i gave them that answer. They said it was incorrect. I told them i would ask , , if i had came here yesterday and asked what would you have said yesterday? they told me that was incorrect.

You are right!!! Only ONE question to only one of them. One ONLY TELLS TRUTH, other ONLY TELLS LIES.
So ask one how the other would answer
If you ask truth teller, "what door would your friend say was the door to freedom?" he would point to death door, as the other is the liar
If you asked the liar the same question he would also point to the death door as it is not what the truth teller would say
