there's probably thousands of great writers who remained relatively unknown. my two faves are hubert selby jr, author of last exit to brooklyn. and jim thompson, author of the getaway and the killer inside me. what are yours?

Carl Hiasson for humor combined with a great story, Morgan Llewellyn for Celtic ancient history within a great story, Marc Olden for excellent murder mysteries with Japanese culture and history as the background, and Terry Brooks for fantasy extraordinairre!

I can't stand elton. mostly because he started out posing as a socialist and as soon as he got some fame he sold out on everything he previously stood for. I do like elmore leonard though, he's a great writer.
