I had a girl brought in last night who was around 3 years old. I suspect her mom's boyfriend caused her head injury. There was nothing we could do. It is days like that that just really put a pit in my stomach that seems overwhelming at times. Such senseless acts. And seldom a week goes by where I don't see something like it - though seldom is it severe enough for death.

No real purpose to this other than just venting.
You're a mandated reporter so there is something you are obligated by law to. Report it. If the parents aren't guilty they will be glad you are protecting her.
Your story really touched me and couldn't help but comment-that must be really hard to see and deal with..How can someone hurt an innocent child...Sad how people are nowdays!
Sometimes it bothers me more than others. It is precisely why I am very close to changing my focus and perhaps open a clinic, perhaps in the midwest.
that has its own challenges too, but I find the older I get, the harder it is for me to deal with some of the things I see.....especially when kids are involved.

DazzleYou: not to worry....it is being investigated.
It is just hard to see.
Oh, good. I thought maybe they were getting away with it and nobody was reporting. I taught in S. Central for 16 years and saw plenty of it. I've lost track of how many times I've been threatened by parents. One father said he was going to kill me but luckily he moved back to Mexico. Every single one of my cases went to court.

I couldn't even begin to imagine--I think I would have a hard time containing my emotion's if I had to see that.....
yes, I worked in an emergency room, while my unit was under renovation. It was sad to see what parents did to their children. One picture comes to mind of a little girl who was diabetic, and care had been withheld from her by her "Christian" parents. She was so close to death and had to be medi-vaced to another hospital

it is a sad story, to be sure. I have no understanding or patience for people that abuse childern, and or woman. I can not understand why they feel they have a right to do this.

Very sad. My her soul be kept safe .To the mum: its your little girl and no man is worth protecing over your childs life. I would also like to say that the boyfriend if invovlved you deserve no less than the full wraith of the law thrust apon you and may the punishment continue what ever happens to you. Let the punishment fit the crime... and then double it!
