Linux is a multi-tasking operating system written in the programming languages C and assembler. It is very compact, fast and stable. The reason MS Windows is more popular is because of the 3rd party software available for it.
I use Linux most of the time. It's great if you don't mind fiddiling around with stuff on your computer. It's not nearly as user friendly as Windoze, but it does have much more flexiblity. If you know what you're doing, you can make it get up and dance for ya. Some of the internet applications can be a bit flaky, I still have trouble with flash and shockwave sometimes.
Still, I'd give it a shot. The internets are loaded with forums and help. That's how I learned. Have fun!
he ain't selling anything mate. as the OP already stated, its FREE!!!
Olsojente: It's some shit I have on a dead laptop...
Oslo, won't call Linux sh*t. its very stable and getting better with each release.
if your laptop is dead, did you try to download one of the latest releases? try any of the following:
Ubuntu Fedora OpenSUSE Mandriva PCLinuxOS Sabayon
Google them, download the iso file, burn the image onto a CD and try booting the laptop with it. check that everything works, and then you can install it if you'd like to.

Olsojente: Or just leave the dead laptop where it is...
that would be a waste of resources. as long as the laptop is still in a good working order, it would be a good idea to get it working one way or another.

I'm kinda liking Mint, myself. Not as much flexability, but much tighter than Ubuntu, which it is based on.
p_seg: lately been using Ubuntu and Mandriva, the first on a desktop and the other on a netbook.
I've tried gOS, but its seems more geared to Google and its apps.
That's what like about the new gOS. I'm a total google fanboy, so It's nice to have all that stuff on the desktop. It's all about cloud computing now, I think..

I do like Google, but don't want to switch from one empire to another!
