OK, have a question, windows here and I have hundreds of programs, many that I use a lot/daily are video formating, converting, DVD burning and so on...
Wouldn't it be a nightmare to replace all of these programs for linux use? if able to at all?

I do know that it is difficult to find freeware for linux
X5323601: Linux is a multi-tasking operating system written in the programming languages C and assembler. It is very compact, fast and stable. The reason MS Windows is more popular is because of the 3rd party software available for it.
Want more?
It also does not take up much hard drive space and is fairly straight forward. So you can use it fine on older computers.

People here know about Linux???
About Free Software Fundation??? Richard Stallman???
About OpenSource Software???
I'm just wondering....

It is sold ready loaded on some PC's such as Dell, in the UK as an alternative to either Mac or Microsoft, In the UK it is fast taking over from windows based machines, and is used in many business and government environments. Most common software for MAC or Windows is now available in some form via the open source library. Google is about to release a new OS to support its Chrome software, will be interesting to see how it goes.
I already read some news about Chrome test with Acer Notebook, in some test make with a seller of Acer in Japan, they show how install and run Chrome on a Dell Laptop... the news say Chrome take only 10 minutes to install and was stable even been a Beta version...

That's cause Microsoft got BEEPed over big time in European courts... They still be king here in the USA...
Do you still have to request Linuk to be installed cause Windows is the default OS installed in new PC's in Europe???
Businesses here in the USA are sticking with Windows XP...
The only way Microsoft can get people to use Windows Vista or any other future OS is if they continue to force PC makers in the USA to only install Windows OS on their new PC... Or are they???
If I didn’t have to use my computer for work I would seriously consider Ubuntu Linux as my OS.
While there is plenty of good open source software out there, there are still times you cannot avoid using the software written for Windows. Some such programs can be forced to work on Linux by porting through WINE but I don’t have the time or inclination to tinker with it for days on end so it will run “good enough”.
On the flip side I would never buy another copy of MS Office as long as Open Office is available for free.

Vista is still the major selling os in the UK for Pc based machines, but more and more dealers are offering an either/or option with win or Linux, from my colleagues in the UK many companies are now moving to Linux due to its stability over both intranet and internet, plus cutting costs in av software etc. The print server software is untouchable even by Mac standards (I am an Apple Guy) its very fast and a piece of p&*s to install and setup. Before moving to Italy I was involved with the setting up of 50+ Estate Agents UK wide all to have networked Linux servers, one of the best installs I ever had to do. Unlike wincrap it actually worked first time with minimum downtime for tweaking.
