$2 Million John McCain Fannie Mae Influence Peddling Scheme Exposed
Posted by Lee Ward
Published: Sep 22, 08 12:03 PM
The serial lies (and blatant race card) played by the McCain campaign has only served to expose the rank hypocrisy of John McCain. It turns out that top McCain adviser Rick Davis was paid $30,000 a month for a period of five years -- a staggering total approaching $2 million -- and he did nothing to earn that money besides use his close association to John McCain.

ast week the McCain campaign stepped up a running battle of guilt by association when it began broadcasting commercials trying to link Mr. Obama directly to the government bailout of the mortgage giants this month by charging that he takes advice from Fannie Mae's former chief executive, Franklin Raines, an assertion both Mr. Raines and the Obama campaign dispute.
Incensed by the advertisements, several current and former executives of the companies came forward to discuss the role that Rick Davis, Mr. McCain's campaign manager and longtime adviser, played in helping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac beat back regulatory challenges when he served as president of their advocacy group, the Homeownership Alliance, formed in the summer of 2000. Some who came forward were Democrats, but Republicans, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed their descriptions.

"The value that he brought to the relationship was the closeness to Senator McCain and the possibility that Senator McCain was going to run for president again," said Robert McCarson, a former spokesman for Fannie Mae, who said that while he worked there from 2000 to 2002, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac together paid Mr. Davis's firm $35,000 a month. Mr. Davis "didn't really do anything," Mr. McCarson, a Democrat, said.

Money for nothing? Influence peddling by John McCain's adviser amounting to millions of dollars, and McCain has surrounded himself with these lobbyists -- they literally run his campaign.

And it's the height of hypocrisy for John McCain to attempt to link Obama to Fannie Mae. McCain's lies have been exposed, and we now see the extent to which McCain has been deeply involved in a multi-million influence peddling scheme, with top McCain advisers receiving millions of dollars.

Update: The McCain campaign responded -- without uttering one word of denial:

John McCain's campaign stepped up its assault on the media today as its chief strategist denounced the New York Times.
The broadside was prompted by a Times report saying that campaign manager Rick Davis had been paid nearly $2 million by mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to protect them against stricter regulations. Davis is no longer a lobbyist.

In a conference call with reporters, chief strategist Steve Schmidt said: "Whatever the New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization. It is a pro-Obama advocacy organization. This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate."

Not one word of denial -- just whining....

I'm not surprised that the campaign that calls Americans a bunch of whiners would itself end up being big whiners themselves. Stamp your feet and complain that it's just not fair, Senator McCain -- let some of that legendary anger of yourself erupt inappropriately. We all know it's there...

PeachesandRay: I'll be glad when this election is over. Then we won't have all this b.s.

IF Barack Osama bin Ladin makes it into the Oval Office, I guarantee someone will take him out or at least make an attempt.

Considering his ties to certain people and their views, I don't want him as president. If it were not for this issue, I'd consider voting for him.

Okay...I'll take a Yankee or a Patriot over a Confederatelaugh

I spent a spring/summer in the south when I played minor league ball in the South Atlantic League. I lived in Asheville, NC. I loved the people and culture, but it's certainly a different America than the west coast. I never heard the N word so many times in my life.

Hopefully your hateful prediction won't come true. Join any other lynch mobs lately? It's so much easier to hate and kill than it is to actually solve problems isn't it.

Stress, I spent my entire life fighting both sides of the Civil War. I lived and was educated in the north east, and spent every summer on our farm in Georgia. I can honestly say I found a great deal more prejudice in the north than in the south. It's more insidious...it's hidden. In the south, the black and whites tend to draw their own lines...both parties want a degree of separation... but there always was respect among those that were considered hard working people and their is an open type of humor and respect for the varying cultures. In the north, everyone "Pretends" not to be prejudice but they are and there is far less respect underneath. I would much prefer the snake I can see over the one I can't. And according to my black friends they feel the same way.

This whole thing could have been avoided if Obama's name was not compared to a terrorist, and making a George Zimmer guarantee about an attempted assassination by someone on Obama does raise the question of how much have we evolved with racial issues since the turbulent 60's. It's cool to speak your mind, but be ready to take it if you wanna dish it!

With that said, I promise never to refer to McCain as McSame.laugh

I hear you Wish, my step father who was in every way a good man was inherently prejudice. He was a gentle man and a good Christian, never would he want to hurt or kill anyone. He just had that N word mentality.

I never did understand it really, this atmosphere of hate isn't just about being black. There is an element of hate for that but it's the muslim connection and terrorist accusations that are the front of this hate and fear. That has to do with 911 and the war dose'nt it.

It has flamed out of control since it became a McCain campaign stratagy too.

Thanks for your insight whatuwish4thumbs up I've never been in the NE but I can totally see and understand your point.
As open and tolerant California is, I did come across many "pretends".

I agree...it's grown and come out of nowhere recently. Very ugly stuff.

I see the muslim and terrorist connections as one issue, and if you remember in the beginning I did QUESTION why he could never fully dispute his Muslim connections... but that was a loooong time ago and I put it aside after many talks with you and our respective research. I did not even know the color of Ayres skin until a week or two ago....

The issue to me is large number of friends and associates who ALL have hateful, dishonest backgrounds, his socialist views, and (sorry) his utter lack of qualifications or experience. I honestly do not trust him and I don't think he knows what he is doing. JMHO

I'm not going to slam him or argue... (have appt. with the vet today uh oh uh oh uh oh ) It's just to set the record straight on this prejudice issue. I think it's Obama's team playing the race card.

Obama has made many statements regarding Acorn, Ayers and everyone. That he isn't being believed despite the difficulty of disproving his statements doesn't mean they aren't true.

The very difficulty in disproving them, although it isn't a final call, would lead me to believe that accusations don't have much substance and are a political ploy to discredit him. The Obama campaign doesn't have the power to suppress all the information the Rep want to get on him. There is always a trail to follow.

His so called Muslim background has been disproved. It was another just another shameful political ploy. Linking him to terrorism and Islam isn't playing a race card? Not correcting people who are shouting kill him and terrorist isn't playing a race/hate/fear card?

That was a deliberate attempt by the McCain campaign to play a race card Wish and you can see how well it worked. There were a couple of people it worked on right here speaking today. There are thousands more it worked on too.

On a brighter note have a good appt today, talk later. teddybear

Why should we believe him, when we get conflicting infomration.....
some verifiable to the countary of his statements?

The day the Resko indictment was laid down....Obama was at a press conference in Texas....the reporters bombarded him with questions,Sky.He gave three answers.....all honest. But if saying..."I know Tony RESKO. "We have given his donation money to charity." and "We have a joining properties." All honest statements. But hardly the complete story of RESKO and Obama. If you believe Obama has been honest and complete with his associations.....then I got land east of KSC to sell you.

Sky I know he has made statement on RESKO, AYERS, ACORN.....OK.
I also know that they (in Chicago) altered the FED RESKO indictment
document after I visited there and read it. Sky, people are covering any tracks to Obama to these parties. With misinformation, dis information and fake information.

This is not first time in my vetting of Obama that I have run into it.
The first one that I have proof of. Yes, something will hold up in a court.
I have proof that the RESKO indictment was altered.

I don't buy that Obama was just the 'nomial head' of a organziation. I don't buy he only spent a few hours with ACORN. I don't buy that he only knew Ayers as nieghbor. How many neighbors do you have that invite you to sit on a board and will give you grant funding in the $1000s? I don't buy that his only relationship with RESKO was on buying some a joining proterties. When people are altering the RESKO indictment documents to take the connections to IL politicians out of them.

DEMs and left are spinning this out there. Why, I don't know. Like the
ACORN scandle, it is a disrespect for the country and its people to do so. Every man and woman has a past of some kind. Why is Obama's being covered? Just maybe DEMs and the left cannot tell the truth anymore (they have been know consider the Daily Kos and Huffington post 'the turth'). Or fear the truth regarding Obama. Or knew that these associations of Obama were going to be the REP attack point. So they come with disinformation and misinformation to cover it.

What ever...it simply means that the country will never know the
REAL Barak Obama.....whether he is good or bad. Like McCain....I think that he is a decent man.....but he is a decent man that is having his past covered and misinformed on.
