StressFree: Have you considered the financial burden factor? Middle class vs upper class? Lower class vs middle class? Affirmative action helped, but it was no solution for equal opportunity to receive higher education. Some parents (middle/upper) pay the education for their kids, but to those who don't come from wealthy families have a much heavier burden to carry from both sides of the family. Higher education is free here in Sweden and our government does not tell us what to do nor are their any hand outs. Trust me. Sweden is a mix of Socialism and Capitalism. Sweden does not =Cuba, China, or the USSR.

Some of you Americans need to examine the social democracies in Europe to get a better sense and understanding instead of just saying you are a hard workers and you don't want the government telling you what to do. There is a happy balance in there.

Stress, ever ask yourself why a guy that is a HARvard trained lawyer.
That could have gotten a 6 figure job in many NY law firms. Why he choose a low pressure job as a community organizer with ACORN?

Let us face he it.....he had the best education in the country that money could buy.......and goes to the minors. Not a AAA minors.....but all the way to the D league. Stress, had he gone into the majors from college, he still could make the run for the President, still done civic duty, still been a legislator. He ducked for along time the big leagues.

He and Michelle like had about $200K in student loans. More the reason to find a better paying job than community organizer.

On the college equal opportunity issue. Even the Junior College have special programs to bring minority student into them. We have many 4 years school that are strickly minority schools....I don't have a problem with it. Minority students want an education in the US, they can get it.
Many road paths to get what they want. There are some 2000 college and university in the US. Each is open to minority students.

Here where capitolism is still the accepted ...though maybe fast fading....if we gave University school away for free.....think that they would be ready for capitolism after graduating? Or still need more free?

Hey Sparky! Graduation rates in relation to what? What kind of statistics are you looking for exactly? I'm not sure exactly what you want to examine. Can you be more specific please.

And singleDude, Americans are not selfish and greedyscold The corporatists/ top level executives are....

Tom, I'll just say on the first part of your post that he was trying to rebuild from the ground up at a grass roots level and build some solid contact. Also, almost everybody starts in A ball ttom....not triple A. lol
And maybe it's a good thing that they did not pursue a job that pays more, maybe he saw some importance in doing something for a cause instead of chasing the money. Either way, he is still running for President and there should be no set formula for how our candidates get to the top.

I do think that students would be ready for a capitalist job market after graduating. What makes you think they would need more for free? Sweden is a very productive country. And I should point out, that it's not entirely free to study. Books, food, and living are expenses, but student do get some money to go to school from the government or unions, but it's not enough without getting a loan.
There are a lot of factors to consider, but students do accrue debt here in Sweden, but nowhere near what American stuedents accrue on average.

I was looking more for the percentage of the population who attend and graduate from college. I have found some web sites but most of their information comes via PDF files and I don't have adobe or other program on this comp which can read it.

part two.........

Gambling at the $15 dollar minimum-bet tables if not higher (in some cases, he has been seen betting $100 chips). This has been confirmed by his top campaign aides over the years (Mark Salter and John Weaver). His longtime friend Wes Gullet says they would play in Vegas for 14 hours at a time, (10am to midnight), and that McCain is superstitious, blowing on the dice and such. It's not hard to see his love of gambling in his political choices, such as Sarah Palin for VP. All very exciting when he's gambling his own money or his campaign; but if America has a showdown with Russia over some neighboring country, that might be a bit less charming. And McCain's entire presidential campaign has been a series of high-risk, high-stakes gambles, which is not a good sign for what his presidency would be like.

Founding Member of the Keating 5 Back in the old days, defendants in famous trials got numbers -- the Chicago Eight, the Gang of Four, the Dave Clark Five, the Daytona 500. McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

McCain was not convicted of any crimes, though the Senate concluded that he exercised "poor judgment." (Furthermore, he got off on some charges by a technicality -- that he was still in the House when he took those vacation trips, and so the Senate couldn't prosecute him. The House concluded that THEY couldn't prosecute him because he had moved to the Senate.)

countinues......

part three.........

That New Time Religion John McCain grew up Episcopalian. He went to an Episcopalian high school. For at least 15 years, he has been listed as an Episcopalian in authoritative directories such as the Almanac of American Politics and Congressional Quarterly's Politics in America 2008. He told a reporter from McClatchy News Service in June 2007 that he was an Episcopalian.

Suddenly, in September 2007, he's campaigning in South Carolina, the heavily Baptist state where George W. Bush barely managed to stop McCain's presidential campaign 8 years ago. And guess what? McCain tells a reporter "By the way, I'm not Episcopalian. I'm Baptist."

When pressed, he said he's attended the North Phoenix Baptist Church in Arizona for more than 15 years, though he has never been baptized in that church. Now see, that's exactly the problem. Baptism is kind of a big thing in the Baptist Church. (That's how they got the name.) No baptism, not Baptist.

Anyway, details aside, this is one very clear indication of how McCain has changed. Now, he's just another hungry politician, happy to pander if it helps him win. Which eliminates the very reason people were excited about him in 2000 -- his honesty.

Mafia Ties Arizona (which borders Nevada) has long had a serious presence. In the 1970s, a reporter was assassinated for looking into them. In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph "Joe Bananas" Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.

College rates double faster than health care rates.....maybe it's time to put a freeze on colleges. I'd be for it. Now isn't that thinking outside the box? I'd love to see professor's wages froze for a few years.

No...no laws were broken. Just opinion from a vantage point. Nobody forced anybody to do anything. Banks just don't act out on ultimatums without considering the profit potential.

NINJA loans or NINA loans were not introduced by ACORN....The scandal can be traced back to Alex Greenspan's not raising interest rates and "one link in a chain that connected the global pool of money to its new favorite investment, these residential mortgages, the US housing market, and guys like Clarence Nathan. Think how attractive a mortgage loan is to that 70 trillion dollar pool of money. Remember, they're desperate to get any kind of interest return. They want to beat that miserable 1 percent interest Greenspan is offering them. And here are these homeowners, they're paying 5, 7, 9 percent to borrow moneyfrom some bank. So what if the global pool could get in on that action?"

Here is an accurate source for the so called NiNJA or NINA loans. And ACORN is not a player.

Hannity and Colmes said one of the polls (name missed) was overloading it surveys with DEMs by 25%. It all depends on the areas of the country where the polling is being taken. Liberal media has likely been using poll data that has has askewed since day one.

Three recent polls on Hannity and Colmes......Obama +2/ Obama +3/ Obama +5....seems to be tightening again.

If that's the case and I tend to believe it's possible, there's going to be a lot of serious problems come election day if McCain is elected. I really hope the pollsters are a little smarter than this especially since the outrage will be far worse than Bush vs Gore 2000 was.
