DEFIANCE, Ohio -- "Where is Joe? Is Joe here with us today?"

That's the question John McCain asked roughly 6,000 people at Defiance Junior High School here this morning, But the correct answer was no -- Joe the Plumber was nowhere to be found.

There are conflicting reports about where or when or if Joe will appear with McCain at some point during his two-day bus tour of Ohio, but the candidate clearly thought that he was meeting him here in Defiance, the first stop on the tour.

Video: At an Ohio rally, Sen. John McCain calls out to 'Joe the plumber' but Joe wasn't there, so he tells the audience, "you're all Joe."

While riffing on a common line from his stump speech about Obama's desire to "spread the wealth," McCain confidently proclaimed, "Joe's with us today. Joe where are ya? Where is Joe? Is Joe here with us today? Joe, I thought you were here today."

Then the senator covered up for Joe's absence by saying, "All right, well you're all Joe the Plumber. So all of ya stand up ,and say I thank you." McCain went on to say that he had seen Joe on TV this morning, and he asked the crowd to "give him a round of applause for what he's done for America.

McCain also hit Obama on some comments he made to ABC's Charlie Gibson last night when asked if he had thought about what he would do after November 4th if he lost. "Last night, Sen. Obama said that if he lost he would return to the Senate and try again in four years with a second act. That sounds like a great idea to me. Let's help him make it happen."

But Obama didn't tell Gibson that he'd make another White House run; he said he looked forward returning to the Senate and working with the next president and Congress.

"Look," Obama said, "when I started this campaign we were the longest of long shots, and Michelle and I were extraordinarily happy before I started running. And I'm a relatively young man. Ya know, they say there are no second acts in politics, but I think there are enough exceptions out there, that I could envision returning to the Senate and just doing some terrific work with the next President and next Congress."

A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses.

Fallingman: You see the problem with you reactionaries is mostly in your text above. You generalise, demonise and make false comparisons. What has Russia to do with modern socialism, what has socialism to do with Obama? I'm sure the USSR was a spectacular failure - so was the Bush administration but I don't think they have THAT much in common.

I'm sure there was corruption in Russia....but what has that to do with America voting out a nasty incompetent Government by democratic means....answer...nothing at all. All huff, puff and smoke.

If you asked me to name a socialist country it would be hard to come up with one....Sweden sometimes....and you are not going to tell me that that country is "hell on earth". People are entitled to try out different ways to improve their society.

And this laughable confusion of liberalism and socialism. In most countries the Liberals are relatively right-wing. Only in America have the right succeeded in demonising all attempts to create a more caring society as "liberalism=socialism=communism".

Lies and slander Tom are Lies and Slander no matter what way you dress them up.

I don't know anyone, not even Dude in his heart, who thinks that Obama will solve all the problems of the world but I know lots that think he is fundamentally decent and will try. I believe even John McCain believes that and that he is embarrassed by some of his supporters. I respect him for that and if he were running for some party other than the appalling Republicans I might show him some support.

I would prefer Obama to be anti-gun, anti-death penalty, more even-handed in Middle East policy (less slavishly pro-Israel) and willing to move to get out of Iraq as quickly as possible. However, you can't have everything and of the available options he seems by far the best.

Try Norway for a socialist country....

Best socialist country ever?Norway has the highest standard of living in the world should move up from number two to number one on the The Human Development Index (HDI).

I know some Swedes who moved there, and they love Norway and think it's much better than Sweden. It's a good thing Norway produces it's own oil. Lot's of wealth to spread around.

ttom500: It is funny how the left and DEMs forget about GWB's AID program in Afrcia. That he increased far more than other DEM presidents had. Or they forget about GWBs faith initiative program......keeping faith based
organizations doing food relief. Or GWBs no children left behind program......that the DEM Congress could not fund.

Yet you mention Obama being liberal and a socialist and you are demonizing. Obama leaves his brother George in squalid proverty in Kenya. Obama cannot advocate laws for living abortions in IL. Obama cannot sever from a church with the leadership and theology of Rev. Wright's liberation theology. Maybe he needs to be demonized a little.

Yep....I got the left's demonizing picture now.

Hey Dude...was one of Obama's Chicago thugs involved in this?

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Just 5 days before the election, at 3a.m. on October 30th, all of the front windows of the Cindy Sheehan for Congress campaign offices were shattered. Although staffers had been in the office less than an hour earlier, no one was in the building at the time of the incident. No one was hurt and there were no witnesses. Cindy Sheehan is a candidate for Congress in California's 8th Congressional District race against incumbent Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

"It seems to have been a calculated intimidation tactic," said Tiffany Burns, the Cindy for Congress campaign manager. "One of our computers was stolen, but no other property was taken from our offices and no surrounding buildings were targeted. Clearly they wanted to both frighten us and to gather information." Total damage to the campaign office is currently estimated at more than $5,000.

The Cindy for Congress campaign recently chronicled a series of unusual events, including other threats of violence, in a statement issued on October 13th. In that statement, Cindy Sheehan noted "he past few weeks have been a little strange at Cindy for Congress the things that have been happening could just be coincidences, or a run of bad luck, but the climate for the possibility of campaign hanky-panky certainly exists."

Campaign staffers also note each incident, including today's early morning incident, has followed closely on the heels of a confrontation with Cindy Sheehan's opponent Nancy Pelosi. This morning's incident occurred after an on-air confrontation between the two candidates on KQED's public affairs program Forum with Michael Krasny on Wednesday morning.

"Each time we confront her, each time we ask her for a debate, each time we gain ground in the polls, something horrible happens," said Burns. "Once or twice might be a coincidence

Did you catch Obama's 1/2 hour special? It is on YouTube.

When Obama said he is worried about "the single mother without health insurance" that was me.

When he expressed his concerns about the elderly and sick, he was talking to my mother.

When he spoke with people about the factories shutting down, the people losing their jobs and the local small businesses shutting down, he was talking about my city.

I pray to God Obama wins.

After the endorsement of Bill Clinton, Colin Powell i think that the only reason for hesitation is because he is black and Americans are scared of loosing "supremacy", social supremacy because it is important for them to walk as the superiors.
