I don´t know if any of you have heard of this, but a woman who uses birth control pills and smokes significantly increases her chances of having breast cancer. At least so I´ve been told by doctors.

Anybody know anything about that?

I thought that was cervical cancer. It's probably not a wise idea...but I did it when I was younger. I know that it's worse over the age of 35.

Many things are estrogenic and increase one's chances of breast cancer...mostly apparently related to plastics. So, don't microwave your food in plastic containers, and don't drink water from plastic bottles that have sat in the sun or in the freezer...something in both temperature changes release chemicals from the plastic into food and water that are now strongly linked to breast cancer.

Good thread. bouquet

There´s a birth control method I´ve heard is very effective. It´s those cheap sandals you buy at supermarket and come attached to each other. You put them on before you go to bed.dunno grin

That was linked with cancer many years ago, but then it was proven that the amount you'd have to have of it would be impossible to consume in a lifetime...I don't use them anymore because of their affect on the glycemic index. Better to just use the real thing than chemicals. JMO, on that one...to each their own.

Honestly, in today's world with all of the pollution, breathing causes cancer. There are lifestyle changes and nutritional choices that one can make to help improve the chances of preventing it, though.

Good info, Druidess, thanks!
I´ve seen girls with breast cancer before their breasts have even been completely formed, and had to remove them both. Pretty sad. Also seems the rates of breast and uterus cancer are getting more common every day.

The rates of all cancers are on the rise. It's all of the chemicals in our food. Going back to proper nutrition takes the chances way down. This is why I'm going to school for my Doctor of Naturopathy. Watching my husband die of cancer led me the rest of the way onto this path. I did a lot of research when he was diagnosed, and learned a lot. There is much one can do to prevent cancer. Avoiding stress is a big factor, too.

That about stress I had already heard of.

I am really sorry about your loss. Cancer can be a very painful thing for the patient and people around. I hope you are ok now and that this has in some way brought you gains, not only losses.

A woman must primarily be wary of any changes in how their breast or nipple feels or whether any difference occurs in their appearance as it is one of the common symptoms of breast cancer. To be especially keen about is when a lump or thickening in or around the breast or somewhere in the underarm area develops as it is one of the foremost symptoms of
breast cancer The same can be said with tenderness of the nipple, a possible indication of breast cancer. Such changes in the breast or the nipples’ appearance brought about by breast cancer can be manifested by the nipple turning inward into the breast.

The breast may have changes in its shape or size as well. It can be a possible onset of breast cancer when the breast, nipple or areola skin becomes swollen or scaly. It can be a sign of breast cancer as well when the breast skin appears to have ridges or pitting and akin to that of an orange peel. Breast discharge is also one of the symptoms of breast cancer. In its initial stages, breast cancer does not cause pain, but it is essential for women to undergo breast self-examination for early detection of the disease. Or else they could have regular check ups with their healthcare provider for mammograms and other necessary evaluations.
