A guy has e mailed me and said he would like to get to know me. I wrote back asking him a few questions, his reply was why do we not chat and get to know each other.
Is he really interested or just another scammer?

I can generally tell whether or not they're a scammer if they include a email addy and tell me that they wish to spend the rest of their life with me.
I don't take the chance that they aren't scammers and just delete their mail to me. If they're not someone I see or converse with on the forums on a daily bases I either delete or block them.
In this day and age one can never ever be to careful.

Then I wouldn't talk to him anymore. If he doesn't have anything to hide about himself then he would gladly answer your questions.
I think I'd dis-continue the chats if it were me. Something sounds/seems pretty fishy on that guys part.

It's a good thing to have an email addy that you can dump with no problem---incase of encountering jerks...
Some people prefer chatting, others the forums, and some sending emails.
Don't count him out just because he lives in the States---
