Chiesa della Santa Croce

Tombs of Dante Alighieri and Galileo.

Behind the Uffizzi Gallery there is the Museo Delle Scienze Antiche. If you like science and the history of science it is a must. Galileo's Telescope, Alessandro Volta's battery......

Apart from that.......Enjoy the food (VERY IMPORTANT). The Wine. The Culture. The Markets. Talk Italian. Go up the dome. Take a day trip to Pisa, Siena, San Gimigniano. Eat good food (I think I already said that).

It's Florence. You go there and you live it. I've been promising myself to go again for the past 10yrs......... Google 'florence' and I am sure you will get lost in what to do.

Hope you enjoy it.

ps: Do not miss Davide. Go there. Look at the marble. Stare at it. Take it in....and do not forget to breath.

i just hope you have a great time in Florence. if you love art, 4 days are just not enough!! As for reasonable restaurants, unfortunately I cannot suggest but, I am not so sure if you could find reasonable places there... i rather think it is an expensive place, for what kind of city it is, but I dont want to put you off, and thanks for the virtual card you mentioned. highly appreciated... already looking forward for when you come back and tell us about your trip!! Good luck!

Take a bottle of red wine up to the piazzale michelangelo (sp) an hour before sundown. Watch the sun set over the city.

guiriman: I haven't ever seen anyone around CS who might know much about Florence. I am going soon tho if that's any use. In the meantime, come to Milan instead. I don't think you'll find an Italian disagreeing with you about Italy becoming expensive either. I see prices rise everyday..it's amazing. For example, when I went home to UK in June, a cappucino in a bar was E1, 20, when I came back two months later, it was E1, 40 and rising.

Well I have to disagree with you on that!!! I spent about 6 months traveling around Italy and totally fell in love with it.... with the exception of Milan, that was the only city I didn´t like.

I would definitely stick to Firenzia... beautiful, historic, amazing architecture, walking along the river at sunset...

My best advice would be to avoid eating in tourist style places... they cost a lot more and the food isn´t nearly as good. When I look for a restaurant I start walking away from the piazza´s and start wandering the smaller backstreets... look for places that locals are going to... and in the north it´s all about fantastic meat! Wild boar stews, and amazing steaks with shavings of white truffles... also starters that combine sweet and salty tastes like prosciutto and melon, toast with pecorino cheese drizzled with honey... finish your meal with a glass of ice cold Vin Santo...

Oh and if you don´t go to any other gallery or museum... at least make it to the Galleria degli Uffizi, it´s amazing!

Now I want to go back to Italy.....sigh
