BUT - IMO Children today are under so much peer pressure with thier contemporaries if they haven't got the latst gizmo's etc that others have. All retail sales and marketing people know it.
That is why they wage what in real terms is an out and out war on parents and all adults starting in late July or even earlier.

Christmas is not a big holiday in Cyprus, they consider Easter a much more important time. They do have a lot of Nativity scenes in illuminated grottos in the villages which never get vandalised (wouldn't last 2 minutes in the UK) and our local police station has snowmen and Santa's lit up outside - very non-threatening!

Yes I have read about this, last year I spent Christmas in Sevastopol in Crimea, Ukraine, it was so different, as they celebrate Christmas on the 7th Jan, but their new year celebrations are just brilliant. I just need to get some sun

One of my younger mates kids is *demanding* a special BMX bike that costs over £700 and his brother 3 years younger wants another smaller one that costs £300 and that is only for starters as the poor sod has 4 of the little criminals as we call them but Uncle Mike is probably going to be able to help relieve the blackmail.
