Leaves of green to gold and red
As the season turns, green fades.
Hollowed melons carved
Into demon faces and
Lit with unholy candlelight.
Guarding stoops against
Mischievous beggar children,
Disguised against the Reaper
And his macabre quartet,
As days darken and night
Holds sway in the world.
Hallowed days as light fades
Toward the Festival of Samhain,
And crops are stored against blizzard.
Hunker, and hide away from the night,
As the world turns its face away
From the sun for another year.
Anima sleeps in cold stone and creek,
Seeds dream, slumbering in dark soil,
Daylight a tale of distant summer,
When spring awakens the world
Again once more, and doors are flung
Wide to let the light again inside.
