kamelia: Being an only child I would like to keep my last name and hyphenate my husbands last name..I agree that those are things you need to talk about before getting married, but I would hope the man that I am with understands where I am coming from..

And really it's not the last name that counts, but it's the quality of the marriage..

I guess I might have a nagging doubt about my fiance's views of me and of marriage if she were strongly opposed to taking my last name...dunno wave conversing

lusciousmile: You should hear how mine is pronounced. It has two w's in it and a 'w' is pronounced as a 'v', here. They say the 'v' twice, it sounds so bad.

I really love my surname.

Yes...and probably makes yours the country of the longest names! I worked for an insurance company, and Mexican names were the hardest for our system because different parts of the system took different amounts of characters...cross-referencing and verifying them were tough!hug

I've been previously married and did take my second wife's name. I don't think it is absolutely necessary for the woman to take her husband's name.
