By "serious" I mean are you involved in any work concerning the environment, as a volunteer or through your job in any way, or are you an activist, that sort of thing...

I have always liked and prefer 'radicals' be it political, environmental or social. There is always something of intrinsic value from their perspectives as most serious problems , radical measures are needed to correct the imbalances that the problems cause and right now, all the problems are rather dangerous to all of us, so radical solutions are needed.
As for the environment, for example, I have always supported the 'Earth First' radicals in various ways, same for many of the political and social 'extremists' and radicals be they 'left' or 'right'. Radicals exist usually because no one else wants to actually solve the problems, especially by half measures that never actually work or solve anything but only make matters worse over the long term; to paraphrase a well known radical/ extremist, 'Give me Radicals or give extremists but do not give me moderates! %)

I´ve read some of your posts. You seem to be very aware, as you said, regarding your lifestyle. Do you also follow what´s going on in the world? Ecobusiness, market tendencies, public policies, global agreements, data on environment loss and so on?
Welcome, good to see you here too!!

You´re still welcome to talk if you like! I´m hoping we can avoid idiotic humor (although humor is welcome of course, well you know what I mean) in this thread and have some decent, friendly, instructive, productive, quality talk... If you like the subject, please do stay! hug bouquet

I wanted to address this post carefully.
I think it´s a very interesting point of view you have. It´s made me think, because I avoid fanatism and radicalism as much as I can, but thinking about it, I´m a radical myself, so I´ll have to do some thinking about that.
Your country supports many environment protection programs around the world and is one of the countries with the highest ratio of protected forest. How do you see those programs, do you think the money is being well invested or is it just for show off?
How´s the money raised internally and who defines the policies on its application?
Those are the first questions I´m curious about, but feel free if there´s anything else you know and may want to tell us about.
thumbs up

I rather admire the radicals that burn down new houses because they're cluttering the environment. (mainly out west)

Of course, they're putting tons of carbon into the environment. rolling on the floor laughing

I'm an environmentalist 24/7 that is to say I believe in the American Indian philosophy of leave nothing behind but your footprints. I'm a recycle/reuse fanatic and at times I have been an activist when I was in a position to affect the outcome of a bad plan (usually by government officials). In the early 90's I was active in getting the Little Darby Creek declared a protected area off limits to exploitation. The city of Columbus OH wanted to dam the Big Darby river and flood the area to provide water for the city but we together with the Nature Conservancy stopped them.

Now you may not like this but your country has been on my S__Tlist for many years for the way Brazil is deciminating the rain forests in So America. With funding from the World Bank one of your past presidents decided to clean out the poor people from your cities by cutting roads deep into the rain forest and burning down the trees by the millions to make grazing land for cattle. This is not aimed at you personally but at your government for being so short sighted and stupid.

Then we need to do more than just recycle, tho thats a good start. This planet has a lot of problems and they directly affect you right now. Sure we will probably end life on this planet eventualy but whats the hurry?

Leave foot prints and take pictures. Local tribes say if you move a rock then put it back.
I choose the name lorax from an attempt to stop a state park from becoming a golf course. One day i went to this park and there was a four foot plywood likeness of seuse's lorax staked in the ground ,,, the oncer eventualy won with his evil biddings and this public property is now better than the origional plan of encouraging kids to learn and play golf but a great place for adults to leave their kids at home and play golf.

Brazil should reaserch the demise of the Emorites, ( no not the beastmaster movie emorites ) The Emourites cut down the jungle and eliminated themselfs from the planet.
