All of those answers for me are...the same place they were that day, and now. And yes, being one, and coming from a family of generations of servicemen during both war and peace, I'm a staunch patriot and very aware of our veterans.
Happy Veteran's Day, Ship. Thank you for your service.
And again I ask, Where was youe patriotism on 9-10???
Where were your flags the day before 9-11?
How much did you love your country before we were attacked?
Were you even aware of your veterans before 9-11??[/quote Sorry. I am veteran in my country, Croatia. I've spent 4 and a half years in war in trenches on a first " LINE". Five winters under the oak. 1600 days. Each day could be the last one. If you are vet you know this song and I wont sing you from the beginning. I want to say that I understand you, I am your brother in arm and I will tell you clearly what I think, face to face. So I aspect that you will tell me your opinion. Loud and clear. Why do you ask: - for patriotism on 9-11? - Where were flags? - Howe much you love your country before. - Were you aware of your vets before... Why don't you ask who made this economic disaster to your homeland, to your nation, people..... and ask for responsibility. You have fought for your country to be a good place for living for each man and woman, for their human right to work, for their human right to live a decent life, for their human right to raise their children and so on, and so on...for everything that means wellfare. And , what have you now? People who must to abandon their houses and start new life under tents. Listen to me! I am not speaking about Afganistan or a refugee camps in Palestina. I am talking about U.S.A. Too rich, world leading country in 21 century. And why are they under tents? Because they were good Americans who trusted in a " best system in a world" and system betrayed them And where have all those billions and trillions of dollars had disappear? Gone with a wind. Question: Where were you vets when this happened? Where are you now? Non of your enemies: talibans and ..... for Christ sake who else ... I can't see anybody else from outside.... can't do not a close damage as have done some " of our guys" from the inside . Insiders, better known in Europa as : Fifth colone! War profiters. Worse people than Talibans because Talibans fight for their ideas, nation, homeland in their ways and war profiters are fighting against their own nation, people, children. Insiders, listen to me. They are those who put you a bullet in your back And you are asking about flags?! Respect ?
sorry...this wasn't about who is or isn't our enemies....this is a bout saying thank-you for those who honer their country. You served your country! And I am sure your countrymen thanked you!! Wonderful. I am thanking those who served mine.
I have no argument with your dislike for Americans. We have done some things in bad judgement. But there are few counties that have not benefited in some small way by the greatness of our military people. Peace to you and all of croatia!
BTW, I was questioning some peoples psuedo patriotism. What they call patiotism...is sometimes just revenge!!

What a lovely tribute indeed, Ship!!
Not to take anything away from your fine thread, we have just had Remembrance Sunday here in the UK and today is Armistice Day. All my adult life I have worn my poppy with pride and have obeyed the two minute silence in respect and rememberance of all those troops who had served and even given their lives. We take for granted the freedom and democracy we so enjoy.
Not just the Brits or the Americans.... but all of those who gave their service and their lives, of all nations.... God Bless Them!!
shipoker58: And from the bottom of my heart!! Whether war veterans or not. You served your country, and therefore you served all Americans!!
11th November is Remembrance Day in the UK.
We remember those who died to save both our lives and our freedom.
I believe we should also remember, in these 'more enlightened' days the ordinary guys who fought for the wrong side - who died and had wives and mothers and brothers and sisters and children......... they also had to die so that we could remain free - and it was a terrible price owe paid and our allies paid and our enemies had to pay.
Let us hope and pray we are not engulfed in another war of such terrible magnitude ever again.
Today (well - yesterday by now) I looked in my calendar; 'Veteran's Day (US)' was written by the date 11 November. 'Armistice Day (Belgium)', I had noted. 'Remembrance Day (UK)', I added. The UK, where you see people everywhere wearing the Poppy pin this time of year, in remembrance ('Flanders Fields'...).
After 10 years I now live in a 'neutral' country again (although the term 'neutral' can be discussed...) - which has been fortunate enough to not have been at war for about 200 years; and the lack here of any kind of recognition or remembrance for the brave people of Europe of generations before us, during the wars - who ensured a free Western Europe, and the birth of the EU (which we also belong to) has made me feel quite sad today. I was once again reminded why this place is sometimes referred to as 'the duck pond'...
My son's great grandfather (not a Swede) fought for his country and lost his life in France.
