In theory, I would agree...but then, humans would find something else to go to war over, so no...I don't see it as the solution for world peace. 
What we need is for mankind all over the world to get over their greed and need for superiority, and to realize just how small this planet we all share really is, and the danger we've put ourselves in for living on it, and start working together to save it and us. Mama's gonna shake us all off like a wet dog if we don't, and atheism isn't the solution for that.

unfortuneatly organized religions are all about gods which = supremacy and war ...
humans may find something else, hopefully they find that god (and there isnt one to prove) is not the one who made any of this and can let go of this need to be supreme. Then they will realize that supremacy is not a requirement of life; because it most certainly and is historically proven to be the axis of war and destruction for power and control.. undeniably so. Remove the smoking gun?

I don't think it is evolution of man at all. There have always been people who claimed that God doesn't exist. And I see time and time again things that are more than mere coincidences, things completely unexplainable by human thought or science, that confirms to me that he does exist.
I cannot say in what form he exists and whether he is as the Christians believe, or any other group for that matter, but I see day in and day out evidences that he exists.
So I don't think, given that there have always been people who said that God doesn't exist, that there is evolution of thought in any way in regards to it.
What I think is that atheism takes just as much faith as any of the other religions to believe and as I get older, I believe atheism takes more faith than some of the other religions.
I cannot say in what form he exists and whether he is as the Christians believe, or any other group for that matter, but I see day in and day out evidences that he exists.

It may well be... but who is anyone to try and take away another´s beliefs? It´s as bad as missionaries going into other countries to destroy their religion, culture and belief system.
Saying that, I also firmly believe that religion of any sort does not belong in politics or in the running of a country. I think it´s ridiculuos that people in politics are expected to have religion, the Bible has no place being used in a Presidential swearing in, or of being sworn in in a court of law.
It is time for a true separation of church and state.

actually atheism requires no faiht at all, you're actually transferring your need for faith onto atheism, rather than seeing atheism in its own right.

i dont disagree with the essence of your post JB .. the reality is quite different however. History confirms the nature these gods and their devotees using 'belief' systems ... that have no proof I might add.
My answer would be the same as I answered Von .... should genocide be tolerable simple because its part of a belief system? no, would be my answer.

Not just Wicca...Druidism, Shamanism, Native American, and most Pagan religions. Yes...that's the walk I walk. I re-home mice to a wooded park (if my dogs don't manage to kill them), usher bugs outside, let spiders survive in my house since they kill the bugs...grow herbs, and heal what I can with energy and herbs. It's a peaceful faith of "live and let live"...and respect for all beliefs, since they're part of the whole.

I agree totally with Vonney that the answer would be more tolerance of others' beliefs. And that would go for everyone.
So, no...atheism is not the answer to peace and the mature evolution of man, tolerance and acceptance is that answer. Anything else would just cause more war.

well I understand your sentiments Von .. the .. and I want to put this as gingerly as possible, if people were just living their conscience things would be well I think, but they are not. You havent likely looked around to see what is truely going on and I think when one understands that the formation of religious gods is for supremacy over other people's gods, at the price of humanity; then the self conscience aspect you speak of is no longer viable, unless your conscience objects to the misery of those gods/religions.
