Please, can we keep this friendly and not political??

I was just noticing how much of a family man OBama seems to be. His love fore his children seems warm and the smiles between him and his wife, seem genuine. How do you feel? Do you think that he just might be a nice guy, politics aside??conversing

This probably won't surprise you Ship but I feel the same way. He seems like a very involved, warm and loving family man.

When he is with his children they look relaxed and happy.

He is always calling his wife the love of his life and showing he feels that way towards her. Both in candid shots of them together and public.

This whole family has a loving energy and bond that is beautiful to see.

I think he is a nice guy and the love in his family seems very real,
I don't think that would stop him making tough decisions as President IMO,
I would say he is steely when necessary !

Not being political. McCain has known him for over 3 years now.

Says that he is a 'decent man'. I would suspect that fall into the

nice man catagory of things.

I do find this of interest, that Obama supporters are just asking this

question at this time. No buyer's remorse on this one. I hope that you

did kick the tires enough to feel he is a 'nice man'.

Also of interest and to note. A reporter that interviewed both Obama

and GWB......used the discriptive term for GWB.....as a President that

was 'gracious'.

Funny how todays photos of Obama and GWB...remind me of the

McCain and GWB photos of earlier.

Fair points....but I suppose hand-overs have to be handled carefully. From Obama's point of view, he has to calm the strong views of his supporters about the last eight years but also to calm the rabid anti-Obama stuff that came out during the campaign...he is everybody's President now.

From Bush's point of view, he may have taken a lashing from the electorate (Republican and Democrat) but he is still the President and aware of the dignity that is supposed to attach to the office. Also if he is interested in his "legacy" he still has a few weeks to improve Americans' feelings about him.

Also...I have no reason to believe he is not a gentlemanly person when he is not campaigning for office.

He wasn't our president elect before this time. We wouldn't have voted for him if we didn't answer this question for ourselves. But now that he IS indeed the president elect...was wondering what people think of the MAN, not the politician!!

BTW...won't even get into the pictures of Bush and McCain....as I don't want this to be a political thread, please!!

He is a nice guy, a hard worker, and he loves his family dearly. He lost his dad at a young age, and so he knows just how important for him to be in his children life, every step of the way.

I don't know. I don't watch political stuff, so I can't answer whether or not he's a nice man...but I hope so. That would be a nice change.

You might remember Tom that in a number of my posts during the campaign I said I thought Obama was a good man and loved his wife/family. It is one of the reasons I liked him.

I think there was so many arguments going on over the negative issues that wether he was a nice guy or not didn't have a chance to come up much for any of the candidates did it?

Yeah I am going for the hope that he really is a nice guy but learn to be tough in office when the need arises but hopefully his care for his family is genuine.

He is a wonderful guy.

His way of dealing with things is like his mother transmited him. He said his mother used to ask : "how would you feel if this was done to you". Someone who has this line as a principle tends to be a good man.
Having a lot of obstacles while rising can result in extreme repercussions. He got the positive side of it.wave

Yes when he mentioned his children getting their much wanted puppy for the White House and also mentioned his wife in such a loving way during his speech after he won...I thought that was a good indication as to what a loving family man he was....wave wink hug teddybear hug bouquet

It would be near impossible for a professional politician (or a lawyer) to be all that nice all the time.

I think he is pretty straight in what he thinks and say he does think. The Mrs., she is for sure a bit tougher than him, and in the "behind every successful man... “- she is definitely the woman.

I rather leave the niceness to guys like Tom Hanks and instead want to see the President of such a potentially destructive power as a resolute and cold clear thinking person.

At home? Yes, I think he is a descent guy. His eyes change when he turns to face his wife, which is a good sign of a person that knows to divide professional and private life and feelings.
