I am sure this thread will creep out a lot of people but I like to share the humourous side of life sometimes so I'm, gonna post it anyway. When you live on a Tropical island you have a lot to contend with when it comes to wildlife. Along with the beautiful scenery you occasionally have to contend with the snakes, frogs and mosquitos. Add to that list the Igauana. I've been noticing quite a number of these about in the yard. Now Iguanas are vegetarian and we have a number of fruit trees in the yard so they live on the trees to get at the fruit. In fact I've been observing this big fellah(they can be almost two feet from tip to tail)who has moved in with his harem. That's right he keeps company with a few leggy green chicks(apparently one is not enough)who stroll about my lawn with him. He also sports a very trendy spiked mohawk, (competition is stiff so a guy has to look dapper to get the chicks). Because we have no dogs they enjoy the full resort treatment. And its all inclusive so you get all ages. They lay out on the lawn and catch some rays(got to perfect that tan), they sample the local cuisine(any fruit or flowers that's laying about) and at the end of the day they retreat to their five star tree top villa with the panoramic view(all the better to check out those hawks and other preditors). But hey they do earn their keep as they maintain the lawn grass in between cuttings.
Interesting fact, while most Iguanas in the Bahamas are Herbivores, the ones on Allen's Cay in the Exumas seem to be to a large extent Carnivores and Scavengers.

alot of iguanas will eat meat...the meal of choise is mostly ''pinkys''...baby {hairless} mice and rats....because it is easy prey...most animals that are presumed herbivore will, on ocassion, need high levels of protien...squirrels, for example during nursing periods, will rob other squirrel nests of the babys and eat them for the high demand of protien to nurse there own....in the exumas, i believe its the rock iguana there....iquanas are really cool animals...i used to have a green iguana,,,,there is an iguana in the cayman islands {i think} thats called a blue iguana....my favorite is the spiney tailed iguana.....aaaaanyway.....this has been a brief moment with your host marlin perkins, from mutual of omahas wild kingdom.......................
