Forget about the old '7 year itch', it seems that a newly married couple loses that 'romantic edge' precisely two years, six months and 25 days after their wedding! After this time husbands no longer bother trying to be thoughtful and wives no longer try to look nice. By the third year of marriage, according to this survey of 5,000 newlywed couples, 83 percent of the couples don't even bother to celebrate their anniversary....(Daily Mail)
(and no,the survey did not say if all the couples were only British)
sigh

I think its important to look beautiful and maintain oneself especially after marriage. But a lot of women do not care much as the marriage gets older.

It is true about their men as well ..

dunno

Marriage doesn't kill romance...people do....by taking their partners and relationships for granted....I think some view it as..well I got him/her now..so I don't have to work at showing them how special they are ...when romance shouldn't be viewed with a goal in mind....of getting someone or any other goal...it should be kept alive merely because you love your partner and they are special to you...Just because and not have a reason attached to it.....and as long as the love is alive...so should the romance be....wave wink hug teddybear hug bouquet

Absolutely! Marriage should be a lasting(Life time) romance just as any real romance goes forward to marriage, also with the outlook for maintaing that 'air of romance' in the way that Riya also expressed a totally collective effort is the only way to make it all work...wave bouquet

Yes it has to be a collective effort from both partners...and it's not just marriage either where romance dies...It happens many times in relationships after the first few months...I guess that should be a good sign...if the romance dies that early...there is something wrong because you are either taking for granted or being taken for granted before your relationship has barely gotten off the ground....A sign of things to come I would say....wave wink hug teddybear hug bouquet

Awesome post, Hugz! The romance should be kept alive, and should be part of the daily things you do, too...the little stuff, not just on anniversaries. I see it with my parents after 47 years of marriage. They're not hand-holders and cuddlers, but they do little things for each other often just because they love each other...and that, to me, is true romance.cheers

Yes I agree....I want to be 90 and still holding hands with my husband...should I ever find one who can put up with me....romance is definitely the little things and it means different things to different people and couples...but merely says I love you and you are still special to me....wave wink hug teddybear hug bouquet heart beating

True Hugs .. People tend to take their partners for granted. Like saying he / she is gonig to be there " anyways ". People no longer feel the need to work towards " winning " the other persons heart or making them feel very special.

I find it very sad that a lot of men do not think its necessary to maintain a healthy physique once married and nor do many women. Hmm i always think an element of healthy flirting keeps the spark alive in such situations. Healthy flirting as in within limits but to keep up the zest in the relationship.

People kill romance. Marriage is just used as a vehicle

I agree....but then there should never be a goal of winning...just loving and showing how special your partner is to you regardless of how many months or years you have been together....and keeping oneself looking nice for your partner is a good way to keep the spark and zest in your relationship...of course there will be changes through the years due to aging and such...but it's the effort that matters....wave wink hug teddybear hug bouquet
