Yeah, the Pope(s) were a great help in Ireland. Still to be fair, I doubt many Provisional IRA worried about excommunication.

It would appear there was much surprise when all this kicked off as though we were caught unawares......
The events that are unfolding are generations, if not thousands of years, in the making.

Some magistrates in the Northern Territory tried to reduce the sentence on some indigenous thugs on the basis that they would also suffer "Traditional Tribal Law" ... Worked until the Department of Public Prosecutions appealed and asked, "Is there one law for aboriginals and another for everyone else?" and when that didn't get a response, "Are you condoning the stabbing of someone in the leg with a spear?" That made a couple of magistrates squirm uncomfortably. "How about the marriage of prepubesent children to old men?" By this time magistrates were hiding under their "enlightened" benches.
There can only be one law under the Westminster system. And that is what we live by in the West. If you want to live under Sharia Law go live in Saudi Arabia or Afganistan.

No and that wasn't aimed at you. But you can have an effect on their decisions. Write to your local member and protest. If he/she bothers to write back use their excuses as the basis for a letter to the editor of your newspaper. One thing the news media love is controversy, it sells papers. One thing politicians hate is controversy, it looses votes. You will have a little effect, more people will join and there will be a huge effect.
I am an ethnic Irishman. I have no reason to have a love for the British but they have brought to the World a useable system of law. And of course we Irish tweaked their language so that it was useable too.
