Hi im a single dad from Ireland,Feed up with the laws in this country for single dads they don't give us much rights in this country to support our children as the single parent. I've been to court and fought my ex for my rights to see my son and won the case but it still dosen't mean a whole lot on paper my ex can be funny sometimes about me seeing my child the government will not help me and i'm out of work i went back to college to get a better carrer in forensics so i can support my son.I'm thinking of setting up a group for single dads who are having the same trouble , also thinking about organizing a protest march in dublin does anyone have any ideas.please no time wasters all ideas are welcome from both sides.

Hi,

I think there is already a group who are active in Ireland...have you Googled it......I am sure I read about them somewhere........

I would suggest you would need to contact them as and talk to them as you may need to tap into their resources.....

Other than that I can't really say much as I have a v goo r/ship with my ex and see the kids whenever I like basically.....

Good luck to you, and all others on this. I agree that men should have equal rights, and bless those who do want them. It should be encouraged, not discouraged. thumbs up

I feel for you and others in your situation, saw my brother go through two years of court dates to get to see his daughter, was heartbeaking.

My ex on the other hand has no interest in seeing our children, while I would love him to be involved.

There is a whole generation of children growing up without a male role model and subsequently are turning to gangs to promote a sense of family. A lot of women use their children as pawns to get back at their ex's without taking into consideration that the children do want to see their fathers. On the whole, I think fathers get a raw deal and the children's best interests should be the issue and not trying to score points with your ex partner.

I sense a man that has not been treated fairly by the Family Law courts.

Common, but then it is for any person who fights them, regardless of their gender...

thumbs up ditto.

Also:
If I had a child to support, I'd still keep my job while in school. School might take years but the kid needs food, and cloths, and a roof above his head today too.

At another site I was gobsmacked with the amount of married men from Ireland who were too afraid to ask for a divorce ect and so they just hid on this site and they still do!
They are afraid of the laws their as they reckon they seen so many friends walk away with just their shirt on their back and the child support was just too expensive for them which led to alot of guys committing suicide..
The laws in reguards to divorce in Ireland are "MEDIEVAL"!

Ah now Merc you need to get off that fence and stop beatin around the bush and say what you really mean.....laugh

The Laws have improved dramatically actually as regards to Divorce and its far easier now than it was previously to divorce.

This sounds all very sad. Children should never be used as pawns.
My children were told when I split with my then partner that they themselves could decide when they saw mum, dad and that they could decide where they lived. They live with me during the week and their Dad every weekend and agreed time in the holidays. We have always acted as we did when we were married regarding being mum and dad, we decide between the two of us what is best for our children.... at Christmas and Birthdays they see both of us at some point and they receive presents with gift cards marked love Mum and Dad. We may no longer be together and have moved on but we will always be their Mum and Dad. My Kids will always have their father's surname unless one day they decide to change it!
