Another CS'er kindly told me about this beautiful poem, to help with the pending decision of whether to tell my parents when it is the last day they will see our dear 4-legged friend. So they can say their goodbyes before I take her for her last visit to the Animal Hospital.
So I thought I would share it here.

If I knew it would be the last time That I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep. If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more. If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day. If I knew it would be the last time I could spare an extra minute to stop and say " I love you," instead of assuming you would KNOW I do. If I knew it would be the last time I would be ther to share your day, Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away. For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything just right. There will always be another day to say " I love you," And certainly there's another chance to say our " Anything I can do?" But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I'd like to say how much I love you and hope we never forget. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight. So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today? For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day, That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, hug, or a kiss and you were to busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish. So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear, Tell them you'll alway hold them dear Take time to say " I'm sorry," "Please forgive me," "Thank you," or " It's okay." And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.

It's very true. But we always neglect to do so because we always think we're the lucky one to have such chance tomorrow... We always feel it true when it's too late. :(
venere08: Thank you, Lucid. Yours and Forever's Rainbow poem are both precious.
And yes, helping so much.
It does help with so many lovely words said here, to reaffirm we are doing the right thing.
And for the rest of living.
Much of my life these days, I live in a way that I prepare for 'the last day' as it were. Just trying to do my best, though often fall so short.
We all have our shortcomings. That you know you have made the heart of someone else smile in this lifetime should be all the preparation you need to meet 'the last day.' You are a gem.

Yes, so true. And if every person made one other person smile, that's everyone taken care of, right?

Some kids here are learning this tough lesson after a 15 year old boy was found dead yesterday..he had been in two fights this week and now he is gone.....never expected by the students who beat him up....but who are now beating themselves up because of it...You truly never know when your...or someone elses time is up....all the more reason to treat people decently and not have to live with regrets..and to make the most of their time here....

So true, Hugz,
We don't get a second chance.
Well, we get many chances at trying to do things better than the time before, to learn from our mistakes...
I learned about making sure of today when I was watching my husband die. He left with me having no regrets. I got to kiss him and tell him it was okay to go, and he did after hearing his best friend tell him he'd take care of me. Which he does. He's now my adopted brother. That last day, we went together to the hospice. I have no regrets from how I cared for him, how long I did it alone, nor when I let him go to hospice...though I felt like a failure at first as they took him away. Events that day proved it really was perfect timing...we couldn't have handled it here.
Yes...make sure you enjoy every moment of your life, and never miss those opportunities to kiss, hug, and hold near your loved ones. You never know when tomorrow won't be there with them...and life is too short to have regrets.

Venere, right now you're on a break, understandably, so I couldn't email you or send a flower. I hope you see this when you come back.
My thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. I have lost pets, and yes, had to make this decision before, so I know how hard it is. Blessings, Venere.

Venere as I read the poem it brought tears to my eyes knowing what your going through. I lost a Boston Terrier due to it being hit by a car and the person never even stopped. Someone saw this happen and knocked on the door. I had given "Sassy" to my parents and she provided them with many memories. But they are still grieving her loss. My mother got busy and forgot to call her back in the house and blames herself still.
Cat sorry to hear that your facing a difficult time as well.
Hoping you both find the comfort during this very difficult time.
