any suggestions, anyone? And don't recommend pills, I'm not taking them, I'm wearing the patch, eating baby carrots, drinking lots of water. I put the chips away before I ate the whole bag.

I have phrehinite for detoxification and batswana agate to fight the cravings, and a prayer mala to play with, and a straw that I cut in half to fake it if it gets bad.

It's bad. Day one of not smoking was going great until the janitor that smokes my brand showed up. Now I want to gnaw through a wall. Or climb one. laugh

help

Thanks...I needed to vent. frustrated

druidess6308: I know...and one hour at a time is exactly how I've been surviving so far. I was doing good until someone who smokes my brand showed up. It's a trigger...we take smoke breaks together. I'll make it. I want to bad enough this time.

Nobody said it would be easy.

Thanks, Cris...I am. As always, starting a thread helped. laugh

I keep trying to remember what it was like to watch my late father-in-law struggle for breath with oxygen at maximum. I don't want that. I have asthma, so I already have some trouble breathing...I know it will get better if I quit. And I've wanted to do this for some time.

It would be hypocritical to be a Naturopath and smoke as I advise others on living a healthier life. My profile has said "trying to quit" for some time. Now it says I never smoke, and that I quit. I'm making it stick this time. It's time.

I'm working on the boyfriend part, actually. I've been introduced to someone through a mutual acquaintance locally. We've been in touch the past few evenings...by phone and IM. So far, it's going well, but we're taking our time to get to know each other first. I'd like to meet him soon. But, it's going to be a while before we get to the "entertaining" part of that to help me be too busy to think of a cigarette. laugh

Good idea, though...very good idea. For now, I'll chew the gum and suck on a straw, I guess.

devil Trust me...if I met him now, I'd probably damage him. rolling on the floor laughing

Dru, I gave up smoking in 1991 after many years of smoking.
I decided to not fight the idea that other people were smoking
around me. I decided to go with the flow, breathe in deeply
when they were near each and every time I encountered smokers.
I didn't fight it. I even said 'blow the smoke this way' laugh . I didn't buy any cigarettes, or smoke another.
I got rid of everything at home that reminded me of smoking.
I just didn't fight it when I was around others. I came to really
dislike the smell of smoking. That worked for me. Big time.
While giving up that habit, I didn't worry about what bad effects the smoke of others would do to me because I knew it would only be temporary.

What we reist - persists.

Dusty, I don't know if I can do that, honestly. I'm afraid that if I go out in the smoking area right now I'll have one, and I don't want to do that. Very true about resistance and persisting though. I'm familiar with that one.

I've tried the "I can have one and it doesn't mean I'm smoking" thing before, too. I'm afraid that would be more my version of going with the flow, btw. laugh

Deep breathing, that one I'm doing.

Kudos to you, btw. I have the greatest respect for those who have given them up successfully no matter how long they smoked. It's very addictive, and not an easy habit to break. It's finding what works for you, and being ready to actually do it, I guess.

Thank you for your support, my friend. It means a lot. hug

I did the same thing. I also told them to blow it my way. I never got the urge to buy another pack. I stayed smoke-free for 9 months & never would've started back if the cop who drove me around after my robbery hadn't lit up.

Since I did it before, I'm sure I can do it again. I just need will power. Doc, do you think you could help me there? grin devil
