Right after I had a great big fat discussion going on here, I was invited to chat with a hot guy on another site. He kept badgering me to use Yahoo Messenger. I got Yahoo Messenger just to chat with him. He was very abrupt with me and kept asking real personal questions about my life. When I got off of Messenger, the computer shut down to avoid a 'blue screen error.' I figured the computer had taken care of whatever it was, ran a few virus scans and started using it again. A couple of days later, it crashed and went blue screen. I could not even get it to go on in safe mode. My mom had her whole computer memory erased recently, and my cousin also went blue screen. Is there a virus going around that crashes computers? Has anyone else had everyone around them suddenly go blue screen? Anyway, look out for people who are very insistant about making you chat on messenger, etc. I'm not going to do it any more. And be careful what you open...
Did you download anything else besides Messenger lately? I heard there is a new virus that can be download...It looks like a normal program download, and it is used with normal software...the give away for the virus is when it ask you to save, there is 2 of the same options ( I think its for "my documents") if you click ok on the first one, it downloads the virus, and if you click okay on the second, it doesnt... its something like that (heard it from my dad) so sorry the details aren't great...but maybe this sounds familiar to you, and you can figure out it was this virus. If not sorry I couldn't be of help.
No, I don't remember knowingly downloading anything like that. There were a couple of times when the fake virus detector thingy popped up that says 'click here to get protection.' I didn't click on anything. I just want to warn others that something CREEPY is going on on the net and I don't know what. New virus?

You said the virus box kept popping up but you didnt click it ? sorry its probably already in your puter now ,they dont need to click it just navigating to their page is bad enough .
If your looking for a long term solution to stop this happening the best thing is to start with Spybot (all freeware) that program can handle anything even trojans .The blue screen happens when your puter has trouble running a certain program (especially in start up) have a look around your windows 32 files if you can ,most virus or trojan applications start from there ,you can delete it yourself too which is good if you dont have a program to do it for you .
The blue screen could also mean you need a reboot .
jeepers: Can this be used along with the anti virus I am currently using ?
Yes.
It's a one time scan and you don't have to install it.
But it's possible (depending on your installed antivirus - usually with Norton) to run in some kind of incompatibility. In this case you'll get a message saying so. Then don't continue - click 'cancel' in a msg dialog box.
Blue screen usually points to a corrupted file within the OS, if you cannot reboot in safe mode then the operating system is corrupted beyond normal repair.
Best to reinstall the operating system.
If you have a backup use that or if you can boot in safe mode, then restore to a point prior to installing Yahoo IM.
The only time I had any kind of problems were when I had Excite email service, which I no longer use, and when I 'tried' to go to a classical music site that offered the option of listening to the particular music I was interested in.
The information I am mostly concerned about are my financial sites which I check out nearly every day and have been ok. Never have had a problem with those. (knock on wood)
