I guess one just has to use a little common sense, not be in too much of a hurry. I would be asking many questions of course. Only time will tell you whether or not it is real and serious. I don't find anything wrong with long distant relationships, but I would not want them to be going on for too long, (example 1 year) phone calls and snail mail are great ways to confirm the person's existance,if nothing else.
Yes...first make sure he's not working in Nigeria in any capacity. And the Peace Corps does not currently have any missions in Nigeria.
Take your time, and get to know him, see if everything adds up to him being real. If he's suddenly in any kind of bad situation and needs you to send him money...run.
Be careful and take your time giving out personal information about yourself. Become friends first.

Best of luck to you.
This may be a stupid question...but what's wrong with Nigeria?
Well, if the Chinese grammatical symbol of a man and a woman standing under one roof really does translate as "trouble", then I'd be interested in knowing what the symbol for a Chinese girl and a man from another country standing under one roof would translate as...("Stop nicking our women!", maybe..?)
In response to: How to get to know a man who is from another country better?
They don't work, period. Unless one of you is willing to move within the span of 6 months, you're simply wasting your time. Why? Because without him physically present you cannot see what he really is like day-to-day and how he really reacts / behaves or what his true self is. And in his absence, your mind will play tricks and create fantasies about what he is like. And girl, you will most likely be in for a nasty surprise. Having said that, if you like this man and would like to give it a chance, go ahead, but don't put all your eggs in one basket if you know what I mean. And be alert, if you feel that something doesn't quite add up, then listen to your inner voice, because our instinct is dead on right, ALWAYS. If something feels like it is too good to be true, if he seems way too perfect... run, and run fast. Goodluck.

Ive been on-line dating a guy who is in Ireland now for 11 months! Our first chat lasted 6 hours and its still the same now when I get home from work! If we are unable to be on-line at the same time its nothing for him to leave me 30 to 40 mail and we stay connected that way! We just keep on mailing as if we are in the same home I spose and we make the best of the situation with the thousands of miles between us! For my birthday he sent me a lovely necklace with the words mo chroi engraved on the back which means Im the darling of his heart! Actually those words and the beautiful card he wrote in meant more to me than the beautiful necklace itself! I wasnt on the site for romance or a partner and he had fun on his profile! Then 1 day he said kim Ive changed my profile to friendship as Ive connected with a woman from Australia that never in my wildest dreams could I of imagined doing that! We plan to meet down the track but because of work commitments we are unable to do that for now!
i met my boyfriend online and he's from another country. i love him so much though i have a feeling that he is too good to be true. But i feel sad becoz i can't see his face, can't hear his voice and can't feel his touch .I really suffer a lot from the distance .

Skype is a free download and made my life so much easier once I relented and gave up being stubborn. You only need a web cam and a microphone and the software (free) and all calls will be as close to being there as possible and all for free. No long distance charges nothing. Give it a shot is truly is a modern day miracle.
