... and I wouldn't even need anything but carry on as you can tell from the pictures on my profile.
This is a personal pet peeve of my Love that I cannot rid myself of these black rings around my eyes. I swear I am completely human and have no ancestry with raccoons.
If anyone knows a way to diminish these horrible things (I never knew until she told me they drive her nuts) I would appreciate it greatly.
Please do not reccomend sleep as that is another issue altogether. I cannot and have not slept more that 2-4 hours on the best of days and often manage to find myself a few days in before Iremember that I am supposed to. Doctor says I am normal and am not suffering from anything medical. Just don't seem to need to sleep very often. No energy depletion or foggy brain just no real sleep.
As an aside anyone know how long it takes to fall into REM? It might just explain why I have so few dreams. Oh well at least the ones I do have are damn fine and populated with the Love of my life.wow hug

Home remedies are tea bags and cucumbers, which I have used for puffiness under the eyes and believe it or not they work. Plus, the cucumber comes in handy for other things too....

BarrenPneuma: Can you eat those frikkin thing too? Is that what you are hinting at here? Come on we are all mature adults here (well most of us anyway), you can just tell me...

Of course, I use the cucumbers for numerous "home remedies" and then eat them in a salad. Although the KY jelly does add a distinct flavor..............cool

Since I was just a wee young lass ('cause you know, I'm Irish) (no I'm not), I've had people -- family, friends, and perfect strangers -- coming up to me to ask me what's wrong? are you okay? why aren't you happy? Once I get over my initial bewilderment (what are you talking about? who are you? I'm not happy?), I realize that their misperception is probably based on one of three things:

1. I find it excruciatingly difficult to plaster a fake smile on my face.
2. I'm introverted, and usually pretty deep in thought -- intense, intellectual, brow-furrowing thought.
3. I have, and have always had, big, dark circles under my eyes. So basically, I look like I've been up all night staring death in the eye. Or something equally melodramatic.

Having those big (or little), dark circles under your eyes is pretty common. Your eyelids and the skin directly under your eyes are particularly tender and senstive areas of your epidermis, so those dark circles under your eyes can be caused by a myriad of things, including lifestyle, diet, and hereditary disposition. Read on for steps you can take to treate, reduce, and even get rid of dark circles under your eyes.

Getting Rid of Dark Circles Under Your EyesGetting enough sleep and relieving stress can eliminate dark circles under your eyes. If you're living the typical busy life: staying up late, getting up early, working hard, and playing harder, the dark circles under your eyes can easily be a symptom of exhaustion and stress. Make sure you're getting the needed 7-9 hours of sleep a night and taking some time at least once a week to do something relaxing, just for yourself, and those dark circles should get better in no time.Identifying and treating your allergies can also improve the dark circles under your eyes. Dark circles under your eyes can also be a symptom of allergies -- food allergies, chemical allergies, environmental allergies, seasonal allergies. If you haven't already, identify the source of your allergies (this may take the help of a doctor or dermatologist) and begin treating them, either by removing the source, using OTC products such as Claritin, or taking prescription medication such as Zyrtec (the only thing that works for me). For more information, see How to Get Rid of Allergies.

I just had a look see.... I really don't see much of a problem, but since your Love does I'm going to recommend a make-up stick ~ cover up. I know, I know, make-up? But there's plenty of women who have dark circles and it works wonders for them. You ca bet there's celebrities as well who get some help from L'Oreal, Max Factor or numerous other brands. Perhaps your Love would even enjoy finding just the right shade and help you with it?

Just a suggestion. Like I said, you look fine to me....

Thank you very much for the replies. I don't think it really bugs her but it is ammunition for teasing. I would just like to disarm her a little as she does seem to get too much joy out of poking at me.
A very dear friend who is currently incarcerated in CS Guantanamo emailed me with the following links.

If anyone else has these issues perhaps something from here might help. I am off to tea bag my eyeballs and try to figure out what the dealio is with the cucumbers...hug

Trust me Barren you really do not want too know!

Get back a "sweety pie", by making those circles under you eyes MUCH larger.

Thanks for looking and the words of advice. Kinda hoping for something more permanent and perhaps not so delicately emasculating. She of course notices but it is more a personal jest on her part. Just wish to remove her ammunition so to speak.hug
