My sweetheart is coming home real soon. I have been living alone for 3 years. I am not a slob but I do have some clutter (mostly books- okay its all frikken books). I know she is a clean nut so I have been giving everything the once over, then hitting it again. I took my stove apart to clean it completely. My fridge too. I always keep the bathroom clean so no problem there I am sure. As sure as any man can be at least. I have taken every piece of furniture out of each room and washed the walls and floor then cleaned each piece of furniture before putting it back in the room.
I know I am missing something here. Please give me some leads. I do not want any part of her time here to be spent cleaning anything that was here before she was. We have soooo many other more important things to do when she is here I would truly hate to waste any time doing stupid things that should already be done.
We can then get to making all the messes that are ours and working on them together.

BP, let me start by saying that she is one lucky lady, indeed! wine

If she's that much of a neaknick, she'll undoubtedly find SOMETHING that needs to be cleaned, organized, or rearranged. That's just how neatnicks are, IMO.

But you'll still have time for each other. Just take her by both hands, kiss her softly, & ask her to stop & look at you. Tell her it's fine & the rest will wait. hug

Have a blast, my dear friend! hug

I have dusted every spot in this damnably huge home. Dusting is one of her pet peeves. No cobwebs anywhere.
Buying paint for kitchen and bathroom. Have to wait for other rooms because I want her opinion too.hug

How about light fixtures, no bugs or dirt dimming them. Corners in a room especially linoleum look for a pile of stuff there, I am very good at making sure my corners looks clean cause they can draw some of us perfectionists eyes to those places.laugh handshake

I totally agree with this, Owen. rolling on the floor laughing Yes, a neat freak will always find something that needs to be cleaned or straightened. I know...my mother used to do white glove inspections when she visited me...and always found the one place I overlooked, no matter how thorough I was, and declared my place a pigsty. Thank goodness she finally grew out of it. rolling on the floor laughing

True story, btw. doh Neat freaks. very mad

Exactly some require the labels of things in cabinets to face forward, some are perticular how towels are folded etc. But much of that is things she will fix the way everything the way she likes and then you will learn over time what she needs things to be done like.laugh wave hug

She is truly the most amazing person I could ever have found in a million lifetimes. She certainly will be finding things that need organizing but we are going to sell most of it on ebay and locally to minimize the 'stuff' that goes with us. Where? Wherever she wants to go is where I want to be.
Lots of time of course her 'visit' is planned for an indefinite length. We are going to do some renovations and sell the house then move out of here together. We'll take our time of course to ensure plenty of us time. Too much fishing and forest to explore here to ignore or forget.
I am the luckiest man on God's green Earth just to know her.

Thanks for the kind words. You are such a charmer thank God I am not a snake I wouldn't do well in a basket.hug

I realize I will no longer be the king of this castle and I will relinquish the title to her willingly. I trust her completey and have no problem fitting in to whatever regiment she prefers. Of course I know she will give me some freedom if I am good.grin

We are selling the house to move away and it has to be as clean as possible. Other women are going to look it over many times you see and we have to get by their discerning eye so they can tell their husband to buy it and set us free.
I do not want anything to interfere with our time here. Too much to do, too much to see and too much time missed being together.hug

What a breath of fresh air you are Barren and yes your lady love is to be envied.
You are sooo into pleasing her it is remarkable.
Well YOU know who is sooo much into himself it is pityfull.
Pittyful as he himself can not see it, and I know he never will.
Just don't lose yourself Barren!

You have been given good advise by the other women.
I used to be much more of a neat freak, I gave a lot of it up once I realized that work stays in the world but I don't.

hug

As long as the toilet is spotless, the kitchen clean with everything put away in its place, no garbage waiting to be put out, the floors dust free and a pleasant odour in the house, no yukky, out of date things lurking in the fridge.....in that order......everything will be fine...IMO.

Oh and fresh, sweet smelling bedlinen.

Exactly why it needs to be done to the best of my ability before she gets here because I think every place that does take-out is goig to be rather busy keeping up with us. No time for cooking for the first week for sure but after that I will cook every meal she desires just to see her smile. hug

Everything that is cleaned in a washing machine has been done. Not a curtain, or towel remains and all are folded neatly or put in their place. Fridge is spotless and all food is new including condiments. Just finishing stripping the cupboards to restain them. Garbage is a pet peeve of mine and is always put out immediately. When the kitchen container is half full I typically scan the house for things that need to go and then empty all other garbages throughout the house to get rid of it all.
Ironic how you mention kitchen and bathroom as these are the two rooms that sell the most houses. And women make those calls most of the time. I knew I came to the right place for advice.hug

BP- Seriously I think you have gone way beyond!!!thumbs up

leave some for her to do, that is part of how a woman makes it her home.
Seriously, better to leave some of the decision making, As everyone else has said, if she is that neat and clean- she is going to do it over anyhow.

Let the bird make her nest.

True but there will be time for all of that once we settle in. Then her mess is ours and mine will likely be mine.grin
We are not planning on staying too long anyway so best not to have to rush at the end.
Thanks for being the first man to post here btw I knew there were a few who would pitch in advice and of course yours is worthy, pertinent and truthful.hug
