I was never in a bushfire but our forests went up in flames at one point.I guess it's the same situation.We had to jump into the river to be safe since nothing else could be done but to flee.

After having been through a couple of grass fires, as well as a few other fires, and seeing how fast they spread, it's hard to say what I would do.
Obviously I'd want to do all that I could to save my property and that of those around me, but after seeing some footage of the bushfires in Aus., it's tough.
Your life isn't replacable, whereas a house or a car are.
