I don't know. Some months my income is more than my expenses. Some months my expenses are more than my income. I usually find out how much money I earned at tax time. I call my bank account the "rubber account", money bounces out faster than it came in.

Hiya Annayan! Can't speak for the other countries, but believe in the states $4000 - $5000 per month qualifies.
Let me think! I traded the lawn mower for the dresser and chest....I sold the chest for $10 and the chest for $5. I bought a used TV for $15 that didn't work and traded it for a dog with pups. The pups I gave away free when I sold the momma dog to Willie for a used lawn mower. I did well....I broke even this month!

I make much less and do fine ,not sure if that is middle class ,but I look at myself as middle class,I own my home, my son has all he needs and some things he does not need ,food in the house, bills are paid. Oh and I live in NY also, not the city but very close to Canada on the great St. Law. river
I think the Annayan is geniously concerned by comparing income around the world - and perhaps as its worth while to immigrate to another country -
If that is the case I would like to suggest to her not to considder - just stay put - more production plants will come your way when the economy (wildely mistaken with productivity) picks up eventually perhaps maybe
Its a downslide worldwide for the "moment" so to speak (World Depression is not to be said yet - because it could cause panic - But why panic - only because thousends of jobs are lost worldwide on a daily base ? (qualified or unqualified does not matter anymore) -
In Germany for excample: when you loose your job, you get workless pay for some time (about 2 years depending age etc..) It will be now gradually reduced as more people loose their jobs - then you get a sort of "Social Survival Package", but that only after you sold your home your new car your life insurance - also your saving account must be used to provide for your needs ect. ect.
Then ...when you done all that, and you are in age over 65years or so- you might be ready for a pension - no employment for you anyway ... but the pension you get then - is the minimum (all your savings are gone by then - remember) the amount will be not nearly what you paid-in for all those previous years and will be not enough to live decently - the coming Inflation will eat-up big junks too - so you end up poor - then perhaps there will be an invasion of Retiree Migrants to warmer countries - somewhere where living expensess will allow us to survive..
