well now they have lethal injection, but death penalty is a little touchy, because if people aren't executed then the tax payers pay to keep murders alive but if they didn't comit the murder then you have killed an innocent person

Im for it since I watched terrible scenes here in Oz of whole families and little babies die here in fires caused deliberately from Aarsonists!
And what I witnessed on 911!

Sorry I should have posted my position on it.

I'm against it. While I do realise that some people deserve it, I think there are errors made in the conviction process and innocent people suffer.

cheers

My personal feeling is that is a person is found guilty of a crime that warrants the death penalty and all appeals are exhausted the person should be executed in the same fashion befitting their crime. For instance... a banker should be executed by being pummeled with rolls of quarters until dead. rolling on the floor laughing

I do believe that in a lot of cases capital punishment is warranted, but I think public humiliation would work better.

Im glad I dont have to make this decision but I would think imposing a lingering death on people would make us just as inhuman as some of their crimes - fast acting lethal injection, just one massive shot of something like morphine/heroin should do the trick..... dunno

I have a suggested sentence for T V celebs who feel the need to tell us their life short to promote a terrible film, series, book or lousy CD they just made.

Take them onto a TV show, and make them drink cheap alcohol and eat kebabs till they loose all dignity.

Add to that make it a live TV show, mixed with other acts, comedians and music and these morons would cue up to actually destroy their careers.

I cant be the only one who is sick of seeing complete nobodies trying to become celebs for nothing? Some in the music/entertainment business have no talent whatsoever....and yet they seem to court publicity like it's currency.

At the end of the show each week the finale should be suffocation of one of the guests as voted by the viewers via text message at premium rates plus texting charges (for charity) and stick the celebs head up a cows backside till they expire.

If the presenters are rubbish, finish them off as well.

A Broken System: Error Rates in Capital Cases, 1973-1995

Research (Statistics &Research)
Being the first statistical study of modern capital appeals in the U.S., this report shows that "judicial review takes so long precisely because American capital sentences are so persistently and systematically fraught with error that seriously undermines their reliability" (p. i). This statement is supported by the fact that the overall rate of prejudicial error in the U.S. capital punishment system is 68%. Report contents include: executive summary; summary of central findings; confirmation from a parallel study; implications of central findings; the capital review process; the study; the national capital punishment report card; state comparisons; and conclusion -- a broken system and the need for research into causes. Appendixes include: state capital punishment report cards; federal circuit court and regional capital punishment report cards; incomplete list of capital judgments reversed on state post-conviction or related types of review; examples of serious error warranting Federal Habeas Corpus relief; and tables and figures. Also included is the supplement entitled "Examples of Serious Error Warranting State Post-Conviction or Federal Habeas Corpus Relief; with Contact Information."

Taken from the National Institute of Corrections US.

All you need is a chair, the means to keep someone sat in it, a plastic bag and about 2 pints of water.

It is simple and effective!
