Might be a good idea to forget about a trip to Afghanistan or Somalia these days.
If you smoke, don't go to Bhutan... tobacco is illegal there and customs will confiscate your smokes. Your trip will then turn into one big nic fit. My boss found this out the hard way.

If you want a "normal" Tourist holiday, you can go to every popular country. In these standardized hotel and beaches and and and it doesn't matter where you are. Book a package holiday all will be fine.
But if you are looking for the real, for what is happening in the world and if you wanna see what is actually happening, go to the "poor" countrys. Go to Africa, some countrys in near East or South America and Asia.
It's about which visit you are prefer!

The UK is terrible for tourists.
I do not go on maany holidays, I have moved countries seven times.
So, my vacations have been taken up with going home.
The UK is noisy, the people complain and there is too much traffic on that island.

I would say Canada is one, since we are a multicultural country, most people are comfortable when they come here to visit. And varying lifestyles and culturals exist here, so one can find part of home as well at some point.

I did a course on 'Tourism Studies' at University - one of the tourism classifications is 'VFR'.
'VFR' = 'Visiting Friends & Relatives'
I believe VFR is the best type of holiday unless, of course, you're going to the funeral of a VFR..........it doesn't matter so much where you are, it's who you are with that counts!

There are good and bad in every country...
New sights, sounds, tastes, smells to take in..
What I hate are package holidays, huge cruise ships etc...
Much more fun to plan your own trip and go as native as possible..
Get a map of the world if your finances can handle it ...close your eyes, wave your hand around and stick the pin in just hope it does not fall in the Bermuda triangle or one of the five oceans of the world...
Go experience life in the world you will never regret or forget it...

I loved Rome/Italy and Dubrovnik/Croatia. Both of these locations were fantastic to tourist when I was there about a year ago.
I do not like visiting Mexico anymore. If you are inside the tourist zones it is okay, but out away from those areas it is scary and not safe in my opinion.

I enjoy 3rd world countries without western influence. Why go somewhere like UK or Australia as they are so similar.
Some of my favorites were - Venezuela, trinidad, taiwan and Malaysia.
I had a friend who was vice minister of Guyana and one of the top doctor experts in tropical diseases. He advised me against going to certain African nations as there are towns where the entire population is blind from parasite infestations and there are many other ailments. I took his advice.
