Today's issue of the Sentinel includes an "editorial" by McElroy about letting the leftist idiot Don Williams go down the tube---Oh, the Joy!! This guy and his boring attitudes made the readership go down--and rightly so. Anyone else have comments on this great event??

Don Williams is a good acquaintance of mine, and I respect him and what he represents. He and I may not see eye to eye on many issues, but he is a good and kind man with a great heart, and he has contributed much to the creative writing community in this area by starting New Millenium Writings. There is so much creative talent in East Tennessee and the Southeast, and Don has not only recognized this but celebrated it.

I have a great respect for Don as a human being, and I am sorry that he is being denied a journalist's right to express himself in the public forum called The News Sentinel. I may not agree with Don on all his viewpoints, but I shall defend to death his right to express an opinion different from my own. No disrespect intended to you, but I feel the Sentinel (not to mention the community) will suffer from the absence of his viewpoint. It's a first-amendment issue in my mind, and Don contributed greatly (in my humble opinion) to the community "discussion" of issues. Some of his work I consider brillant (reference his tongue-in-cheek Sentinel article on Jake the Butcher and Chris the Whittler {date un-remembered beyond that is was in the late 1980's or early 1990's]). You asked for opinions, so here's mine.

So, guess you and I will have to agree to disagree on this particular issue. This doesn't mean that I intend any disrespect; quite the contrary. I respect--and even welcome--differences of opinion.

You are absolutely right on that point---we do disagree on this nutcase...
I'm a published author, native east Tennessean and a physician, and I too, know Williams through his "New Milennium", (I still get his little "green cards" in my mail). I must have seen (not read) every crackpot article he ever wrote in the Sentinel...I have been offended by something he wrote in every one.
I never met a man I didn't like (somehow)--but with Williams, it was hard..Unfortunately, people like him still show up somewhere--he'll surface again, hopefully in Jackson, not Knoxville...

How being denied another's viewpoint could cause suffering, at any level, escapes me.
